The lake level is 554.64 and has been within two feet for over a month. The surface water temperature is 46+ and has also been very stable. It looks like no shad kill this winter so far. The lake is pretty clear and you can see your lure down about 6-feet and clearer near the bank. There is some algae on the rocks on the shore and we do not normally have that. We need the dam back at Dawt Mill on the Norfork River. My friend Don caught a trout fishing off his dock last week and I have never had that happen in 26-years. I am sure people have released trout in Norfork before but they had a life expectancy of about five minutes with the big stripers. Stripers love trout and they can not stock them fast enough when they are around. Bass, crappie and bluegill are now the best bite here and they are deeper than normal for this time of year with many of them on shad in the absence of the big stripers. Some are still near the bank though and good bass fishermen are doing well and they are getting bigger and bigger. I have seen more largemouth in the 5-6 lb. range last fall and this winter than ever. Kentucky bass in the three pound range are also common. White Bass are making a comeback after their kill-off a couple of years ago and they need to. Hybrid fishing has been the staple for the temperate bass fishermen but none were stocked this year due to covid and the class of 2020 will be absent for the future. They do not stock very many of them anyway. Catfishing was very good later in the year than normal and the numbers look good as well as big bluegill. Those two seem to go together. Walleye was very good all season and the future looks good with many just short of the 18-inch limit being caught. That is about the only way any of them get released. The spring outlook looks very good for everything this year except for the big stripers which are nearly gone due to an early fall kill-off due to low oxygen caused by water left too high for too long and over fishing. Again the Game and fish not stocking any of them last year will not help anything for at least several years. The non-stocked fish are doing very well. The lake overall is in excellent condition and I am catching fish everyday. Blackburns is your fishing headquarters for Norfork Lake and there will be no price increased on anything this year. Come on down and look at all of the improvements. You will like what you see and the price even better. No charge for your first boat stall and all cabins have covered porches and there are no duplexes so you can social distance. Be glad to have you. We just finished refurbishing the dock and a new roof is on cabin #9 the mibile home. The pool deck and basketball court are being worked on now.
