The lake level is 553.51 and has been about the same for a month. They are not generating much and holding the area lakes up. The surface water temperature is just under 50 degrees and is dropping slowly. The Water is stained just a bit and you can see your lure down 4-5 feet. Overall the lake is in excellent condition for fishing. Bass fishing has been good and crappie, bluegill and walleye have slowed but some are being caught every day. Some hybrid stripers in the 6-lb. range are being caught.  Most Bass are on their winter banks but some are in open water on shad as are all other species. It seems more game fish of different species are on shad now with the reduced number of big stripers and White Bass competing for bait fish. Few stripers over 10-lbs are being caught but White Bass seem to be coming back some, but what people are calling big ones are about 1/2 the size as in the past.   There are some reports of fungal mold on a few fish but I am out there everyday and have not found any. All the fish that I am catching are very healthy. I did catch a tagged bass and reported it to game and fish. It was released several months ago and was still in the same place when I caught it. It was released again under my dock.  There are some schooling fish but not nearly as many as in the past. We are paying for too many years of killing dock floors full of dead temperate bass and high water that depletes oxygen. and the game and fish stocked nothing in Norfork this year due to Covid. Catfish are still biting well this winter and that is uncommon.  They usually cut way back on feeding when the water gets cold. Trollers are looking hard and long for feeding fish and it is hard to tell what they will catch when they find some. Norfork Lake fishing is changing with the new brush piles that the game and fish have put in and all of the increased cover. There are lots of schools of shad out there with no game fish under them. There is a good population of walleye but several are under 18-inches. Few big ones are ever released. I would like to see more stocked. It has been a good winter so far, just keep the ice away and let out some water before spring.
