Caught this reporting period.
The lake level is 554.01 and has dropped 1-1/2 inches in the last 24-hours and the surface temperature is 61 degrees. The lake is clearing again and is in excellent condition for fishing. This is a typical November and overall fishing is fair with crappie, bass and bluegill being the best bite followed by walleye and catfish. Temperate bass fishing has been disappointing with no night bite this fall. Some years the stripers go to the banks to feed near the full moon after dark but not always. I have seen very few stripers over 10-lbs caught this month but the bait fishermen are trying hard to get them. The White Bass are making a comeback but are small also. The walleye fishing has been good for a couple of months with some nice ones taken but most are under 18-inches. The numbers are high and it looks good for the upcoming years. Crappie fishing has been good to me with many fish in the 11-13 inch range. Spoons, slip floats with minnows and jigs are the best baits. What I use depends on the wind. They are on most good brush piles and at different depths. I caught some in 35-ft. of water and some in 14-ft. of water yesterday all right in the brush. Most walleye are next to the brush but close. Many bass are also on brush but some are also on the wind blown banks and others in open water on shad. Bass numbers are also high with many small fish being caught but several big ones too. Crank baits and grubs are working on the bank fish and spoons are best for both brush fish and open water fish. There is a lot of bait fish out there and many schools of shad are holding no predator fish. Some fish are coming up at dark but mostly bass. There are a lot of shad in front of the houses on Mallard Point as usual but are holding only small White Bass, small hybrids and very small stripers. Fishermen are working Bennetts Bayou hard for stripers but are lucky to get into one school a day and trolling a long ways. There were a lot of them there in November in the past. There were no stripers or hybrids stocked this year by Game And Fish due to Covid so what you see is what you get for several years. They do grow fast but cannot take low oxygen water that we have had due to long periods of high water with decaying vegetation. Hybrids can handle this better and I would like to see more of them stocked. Blackburns still has the best prices on Both cabins and boat rentals in the area and are open all year. Your first boat stall is still free here. We have no duplexes and all cabins are individual so you can social distance. You do not have to get close to anybody if you do not want to. Why pay more?
