The lake level is 553.54 and is dropping slowly with very little generation. The surface temperature is 69 degrees and the lake is clearing after the turn and is at a very good level and in excellent condition for fishing. A cold front comes through about twice a week slowing the fishing a bit but in general the overall fishing is pretty good. Bass, Crappie, bluegill and walleye are the best bite now with a few catfish coming in. Spoons, jigs, grubs and worms are the best bait. Crankbaits are working sometimes mainly when it is windy and we have been having our share of that. Bait fish are moving back into the creeks in the evening shallow but not many fish are with them. Open water temperate bass fishing is slow and trollers are having a hard time finding stripers of any size. Some are being caught north of Red Bank but are small (in the 5-8-lb. range). Very few large ones are being caught. White Bass numbers are low and most hybrids are also small. It will take a while to rebound with very few stripers and no hybrids stocked this year. I am fishing brush piles and 25-ft. seems to be the best depth. Over 30-ft. is producing almost nothing for me. Some walleye are in front of brush shallow (14-ft.) in the evening and are hitting spoons. Bass fishermen are having good luck working the banks early and late with pretty good numbers but not great size. A few big ones are being caught though. Most fish are hanging in or around brush. Kentucky Bass are biting very well all day as are big bluegill. Good time for panfishing with crappie numbers good with several in the 13-inch range coming in but most are about 11-inches. Come on down to Blackburns. We will not charge you too much and your first boat stall is free.
