The lake level is 555.39 and has risen just a bit in the last 24-hours with very little generation. The lake in general is in excellent condition for both fishing and boating. You can drive or walk to the dock and step right on. The surface temperature is 66 degrees and is dropping slowly. The best bite right now is bass and bluegill and crappie and walleye are next. A few White Bass are finally showing up. Some fish are near the bank in front of the buckbrush, some are on brush in 20-35 ft of water and others are suspended in 50-ft. of water on shad at various depths. Big schools of large bluegill are showing up on shad in deep water for some reason. i have not seen any White Bass all summer but a few are being caught now in open water in front of Mallard Point flats along with a few hybrids and smaller stripers. Some big crappie are being caught but most are about 11-inches long. Walleye are on main lake points on brush in 20-25 ft. of water near the bottom but only about 1/3 of them are keepers. They are biting best at and after sunset. I am seeing no signs of a night bite for stripers yet but the full moon is not until the12th. This does not always happen in the fall but always happens in the spring. A lot of the fall foliage has blown off and it was not the best this year. The roadways are the best. Fishing is getting better and better after the lake turnover and will continue to so so until the stripers disappear in mid December but the bass and crappie will still be good. Blackburns is open all year and has the best prices on both cabins and boat rentals. Your first boat stall is free.
