September 22,2023 Scuba Diving and Spearfishing Report for Norfork Lake Arkansas near Mountain Home in the Ozarks Mountains Region by Scuba Steve from Blackburns Resort and Boat Rental.

9/22/2023
The Norfork Lake Level is 553.35 and is the same as this time yesterday with no discharge for 6-days. The White River at Newport is 2.57 feet and very low. The surface water temperature is 79-degrees and dropping slowly with the cooler ambient temperatures. I went diving this morning and found no thermocline down to 34-feet but it does get a little cooler there but is not pronounced. The lake is in it's first stages of turnover and the visibility is about 5-6 feet and the same from the surface down to over 30-feet. Things are getting mixed up at about 31-feet. The crappie have finally moved into the main lake brush at 25-30 feet but are roaming. You do not have to go very far back into the creeks to lose visibility. Stay on main lake steep river channel banks for the best visibility and preferably points with brush. Crappie fishing is the best but there are a few keeper walleye mixed in with the bass. I am not seeing very many catfish. Diving conditions are good. Come on down to Blackburns where you can get a 1-bedroom cabin for $59/day and it comes with a free stall for your boat. We also have several good dive boats available for rent at great prices. We will show you where Blackburns Brush Piles are located. Call Debbie at 870-492-5115 for a reservation. This is a good time
