June 15th 2023 Scuba Diving and Spearfishing Report for Norfork Lake Arkansas near Mountain Home in the Ozarks Mountains Region by Scuba Steve from Blackburns Resort and Boat Rental.
6/15/2023
Opening day of Norfork Lake Soearfishing season. The lake level is 557.05 and is dropping very slowly with both generators being inoperable and sluice gates open equavalent to 1-2/3rd generators for about 9-hours. The White River at Newport is 7.79 feet and has leveled off. They are not letting much water out anywhere and are keeping the area lakes at just above the tops of the power pools. The surface water temperature was 82-degrees when Scuba Steve came in last evening. The main lake is clear down to about 14-feet and then there is a mud line of particulates for a few feet and then the thermocline is at 16-17 feet with cold water at 20-feet. The creeks are stained without much visibility but you can see on main lake points as far as you can shoot or 7-8 feet and conditions are perfect for spearfishing. I got my limit of two nice walleye this morning and it took me longer to suit up than get the fish. Conditions are perfect south of the 62-bridge and too clear near the dam. Blackburns is in the best diving area and Scuba Steve knows where the fish are located and will help you when you get here. Come on down. We will not charge you too much and have a good dive boat ready for you to rent. Call Debbie at 870-492-5115 for a reservation. It does not get any better than this. Scuba Doo full Service Dive Shop is only 1/2 mile away.
