The lake level is 552.18 and has risen 1.2 inches in the last 24-hours with 1.7 inches of badly needed rain and a partial generator running for three hours. The surface water temperature is just under 70-degrees and the water is clearing and at a good level and color for fishing. Fishing is getting better with Kentucky Bass and Crappie being the best bites. The White River at Newport is 0.61 feet and is as low as it has been in years with not much water being released anywhere. It is dry in some areas and not Navigable. More Crappie have moved in to Scuba Steve's brush piles and are biting best on live minnows on a slip float about 10-12 feet down. Keep a lively minnow on your hook. If you do not use live bait drop a 1/4 ounce Bink's jigging spoon. There are a few big ones mixed in with the 10-11 inch ones. Some fish are deep in 30-feet of water and some are moving in shallow in the evening to feed. November looks to be a good month for fishing. There are a few open water fish on shad on the flats in front of Mallard Point docks but it is hard to catch them feeding. The Hybrid Striper numbers are way down due to over-harvesting by the increasinf fishing presure and the many guides seenig how many fish they can kill. There is more fall foliage at Blackburns Resort than on the shoreline and roadsides. Our Red Maple and Burning Bush are beautiful and everything is green here with the rain. We have not received a frost here yet. A lot of leaves have fallen in the woods. Even the Sumac did not turn red. It is always beautiful out on the lake though and the weather has been great with a few rainy days. We could use more ground moisture but are not nearly as dry as we were. Scuba Season is about over and it has been the best one in many years. It was nice to not have the lake flooded this year but it was due to low rainfall and not lake management. They always quit generating when it rains and let the lakes go as high as they can get them. They just could not screw things up as badly as they normally do. Scuba Steve likes November fishing and is looking forward to the rest of the month.
