The lake level is 552.03 and has been the same for several days with one partial generator running for three hours. It is the same as the spring water is coming in. The White River at Newport is 1.22 feet and about ready to dry up with not much generation anywhere. The surface water temperature is 72-degrees and dropping again and the water is clearing and is a good color for fishing. Visibility is good for diving . Crappie and Kentucky Bass are still the best bites with a few more largemouths moving in and around brush with them. Some nice Walleye are moving in shallow in the evening and can be caught on soft plastics. Open water fish are at the mouths of larger creeks in 60-80 feet of water at various depths on shad. A slip float with a medium minnow is working in brush for Crappie, Bluegill and smaller Kentucky Bass 1/4 ounce Bink's Spoons are the best overall baits. Beating the banks with a grub is catching some fish in the evening on steep banks on the drop-offs. Overall the lake is in excellent condition and at a normal level for late October. Fishing is only fair but is getting better again and should continue to improver as the water cools. Some schools of Crappie are partway back in creeks on brush  and others are on main lake points again on brush. The Stripers being caught are small but the many guides are killing as many as they can to impress potential customers. There are at lot of guides out there with new ones every day so compare prices.  They will weed themselves out. The lake cannot support this many and they are hurting the lake.  The fall foliage is a dud this year with very little color except various shades of brown but the lake is beautiful and in excellent condition. You can still get a 1-bedroom cabin here at Blackburns for $69/day and a two bedroom for $89/day. No better deal around and you can launch and park right here and step on the dock to your free boat stall on stays of two days or more. We have it all and at the best price and are closest to Mountain Home, dining and shopping and the best fishing. Call Debbie at 870-492-5115 for a reservation. Scuba Steve has some good brush piles.
