The lake level is 554.00 and has dropped 1/2 inch in the last 24-hours with one generator running from 3-11 PM. The White River at Newport is 3.83 feet and very low. The surface water temperature is 87-degrees and the weather is hot and dry with a burn ban on. No campfires this weekend anywhere. The thermocline starts at 31-feet but is gradual and very cold at 40-feet. There will not be much of a lake turnover this October. The visibility remains good for scuba diving. A lot of nice fish of various varieties are at the very end of long main lake points in the big rocks at 30-32 feet Drop a spoon on their heads. Some Crappie are chasing bait between brush piles at 30-feet and they are roaming. There are three ways to catch fish now in this hot weather: One: check out main lake brush at 30+ feet and drop a spoon. Two: Check the mouths of creeks where they enter the main lake at 40-50 ft. of water for shad. There will be some Walleye and Smaller Stripers there with the larger Bass. You have to get down there to them and a spoon is the best. Third: Go out at dark with flourescent line, blacklight and a saltcraw and beat the steeper banks with sharp drop-offs. They will typically hit as the lure drops on the first ledge. Another way is to fish off Scuba Steve's Big Dock after dark.
