The lake level is 554.29 and has been dropping very slowly for several weeks with minimal discharge from the dam and very dry weather. The power pool changes next month and the control will go back to the Corps of Engineers until it gets below 553.75. Southwestern Power never let out much water not matter how hot it gets or the damand for electricity.. The surface water temperature is 87-degrees and the thermocline is at 31-feet with cold water at 40-feet. It is gradual and Scuba Steve does not expect much of a lake turnover this year. The water clarity is good. He also does not expect a Striper kill since the water level did not get into the vegetation. The White River at Newport is 2.74 feet and very low where you cannot launch a boat. Ovarall Norfork is in good condition and at a good level for diving, swimming, boating and fishing and the boat traffic has been very low and it is  pleasant to be out there especially in the evening. That will not be the case starting next Friday when the Labor Day holiday starts. A mad house is expected and then peace and quiet after Monday as the fishermen  and retired people take over. I like that. No more wake boats and very few jet skis.  The prices also go down on Monday and you can get a 1-bedroon cabin for $69/day and a two-bedroom for $89/day. 3&4 bedrooms are prices accordingly. Compare prices and give us a call at 870-492-5115 Crappie are moving back into main lake brush piles as are big Bluegill. Walleye are at the ends of long points in the big rocks in 32feet of water. Some Bass are schooled and moving from brush pile to brush pile looking for bait fish and others are on  main lake shad in 50-ft. of water 40-45 feet down with a few Smaller Stripers. Use a jigging spoon on them and drop it right on their heads. Look at the mouth of large creeks. Bass fishermen are still doing well after dark using black lights and salt craws. The weather is to remain very warm all next week but here at Blackburns the big pool is open, you can swim off the dock or off a boat and the cabins are air conditioned with several ways to beat the heat.  It will not be very good for camping. All of our cabins have big covered porches to get out of the weather and there are no mosquitoes. You can sit outside and watch the wildlife. Come on down. We will not charge you too much.
