The lake level is 554.64 and has dropped 3/4 of an inch in the last 24-hours with one generator running from 3:PM to 8:PM. The surface water temperature is 90-degrees and the White River at Newport is 5.40 feet and low and stable. Not much water being released anywhere and it is dry and hot. The thermocline is at 33-feet and the water clarity is good for August as are Scuba Conditions. Overall the lake is in good condition and at a good level for fishing, diving, boating ant swimming. Boat traffic is low but it will be a nightmare on the holiday weekend. Now is the time to visit Norfork Lake and Blackburns Resort and Boat Rental for some peace and quiet. Boat Traffic is low. We have the best resort and the best prices on both cabins and boat rentals in the Ozarks. Here is the fishing situation: Bass and a a few Crappie are on main lake brush in 33-feet of water. Use live bait and a 1/4 ounce Bink's Jigging Spoon. Scuba Steve does not like red meat fish (temperate Bass) very much but they fight hard but do not taste very good even with the red mest cut out. He prefers Walleye, Crappie, Bluegill and Flathead Catfish but if you cannot catch those take what you can get. They are at the mouth of Blackburns Creek by Mallard Point in 50-ft. of water about 30-40 ft. down. Drop a spoon on their head. No need to pay $500 for a guide unless you just have too much money. Find the shad and the predator fish will be there. Fishing is actually pretty good for middle of August. Scuba Steve does not think there will be a Stripers kill this year since we were not flooded out. It was not due to dam management but that we did not receive any big rains. They were all around us. The Corps of Engineers could not manage a day care center. Every thing looks good here on Norfork Lake for an exceptional fall. If you want a few days vacation and no crowd with peace and quiet come on Down to Blackburns. It is nice here and the price is right. We will not charge you too much. You can watch the wildlife and feed the ducks, turtles and fish at the dock. We are the family and old folks place. If you want to set around the fire (we have a burn ban on) play loud music and drink and smoke dope all night long this is probable not the place for you. We like peace and quiet. Go to sand island. They like that.
