The lake level is 555.26 and has dropped 1-inch in the last 24-hours with 7-hours of running one generator when Scuba Steve came in at 6:PM last evening. It was hot and you would have though they needed some electrical power somewhere and dropped the lake. It is too high for this time of year. The surface water temperature was 90-degrees and the thermocline was at 33-feet and about as deep as Scuba Steve has seen it. It should drive down more with the hot ambient temperatures. The water remains clear down to 27-feet with a slight mud line from there down to the thermocline. It is about as clear as he has seen it in August for many years. Diving conditions are excellent. The White River at Newport is 5.89 feet and low. They need to let out some water. If you wanr to have peace and quiet and excellent diving, fishing, swimming and boating conditions now it the time until Labor day Weekend when it will be a zoo again. After that the fishermen take over the lake and the traffic is gone. The after dark Bass fishermen are doing well and the deep water fishermen are catching fish every day. Walleye are at the very end of main lake points and bass are moving in shallow at dark to feed on crawdads. Big Bluegill are on top on brush in 25-30-feet of water and under docks. Crickets are the best baits. Overall Drop a spoon on top of everything. Blackburns Resort and Boat Rental continues to have the best resort with the biggest dock and pool in the Ozarks with the best price on both cabins and boat rentals.
