The lake level is 555.44 and is the same as it was at this time yesterday with one generator running about four hours. The surface water temperature is 88-degrees  and the thermocline is at 32-feet. The visibility is pretty good down to there and much better than normal for August. The White River at Newport is 5.61 and low indicating not much water is being released anywhere. The lake overall is in excellent condition and at a good level for fishing, diving, swimming and boating. Crappie are schooling and roaming. They are looking for bait fish on brush piles. They will be on one today and another tomorrow and move with the wind. You have to move around. Smallmouth Bass are showing up on brush with a few Largemouth. Kentucky Bass are always there and are the best bite. Drop a small spoon. If you catch smaller Bluegill on a brush pile do not give up. Bigger fish are nearby. Bluegill draw Bass and Catfish. Stripers and larger Walleye keep moving deeper and all die when brought up. Catch your limit and quit or do not fish for them in the first place. The numerous guides are gluttoning themselves out of busines. Find the fish and drop a spoon. No need for a guide especially at some of their prices. Compare prices before you book. They are all catching fish. The Black Bass are feeding on Crawdads on the first drop-off on steep banks just before and after dark.  Use a black light. flourescent line and a saltcraw on a jig head. Some nice ones are being caught. Most of the boys that do this know what thery are doing. The fish go to the same summer banks every year at this time plus it it much cooler. We are in for some very warm weather for the next week and Blackburns Resort and Boat Rental's big pool is open and we continue to have the best prices on both cabins and boat rentals in the Ozarks. Weekly stays are not required. You can typically stay in a cabin and rent a boat for about the same or less than just renting a boat elsewhere. Sorry we do not allow dragging or towning anything with our boats. If you want to do that you can stay at Blackburns and rent a boat elsewhere. The many marinas will be happy to accomadate you but be ready to pay. Boat traffic has slowed and now is an xcellent time for a visit to Blackburns Resort and Boat Rental.  Compare prices and call Debbie at 870-492-5115 for a reservation. It is nice here and the price is right.
