The lake level is 558.42 and has dropped 2-inches in the last 24-hours with one generator running continuously and they opened spillway gates equal to 1/3 of a generator for 8-hours. Just a trickle. The White River at Newport is 11.55 feet and normal with no effort to drop the lake. The surface water temperature is 88-degrees and the water is very clear down to 17-feet with the thermocline at 23-feet with cloudy water below 17-feet. It is cold at 30. The larger fish that were at the thernocline have moved deeper in open water on shad leaving just Kentucky Bass and Bluegill. Gar have moved in the creeks running out the Catfish. Your best bet now is to go out on windblown points in 40+ feet of water and drop a spoon in shad. Walleye, White Bass, Largemouth Bass, Hybrid Stripers and Smaller Stripers are there. Drop a 1/2 ounce Bink's Spoon right on their heads. The fish will go deeper as the water warms and the oxygen depletes. The lake overall is in excellent condition and at a good level for swimming, diving, boating and fishing but fishing is slowing. Some Bass are moving in shallow at dark to feed on Crawdads. Summer conditions are here. Blackburns Resort and Boat Rental's big pool is open and fishing off the dock is popular. Things are looking good here and we are ready for your visit.
