The lake level is 557.90 and has risen 1/2 inch in the last 24-hours with one generator running for about 9-hours. The lake has been rising slowly all spring and summer with no effort to keep it normal. It is still in good condition and at a good level for boating, fishing, swimming and diving and has low boat traffic during the week. It is nice to go out on a big beautiful lake with no congestion and have peace and quiet. That is rare. The White River at Newport is 10.84 feet and normal with some water being let out of the dams finally. The surface water temperature is 82-degrees and the thermocline starts at 17-feet with cold water at 23-feet and a mud line with little visibility in-between. It is clear above and below the thermocline with excellent diving conditions. It is about as good as it gets. We have missed al of the severe weather and big rains so far as they have gone above and below us. We are blessed. Some fish are in open water on shad so go part way back in the windblown creeks and drop a spoon. Others are on main lake windblown points in front of and in brush piles in 16-30-feet. The big ones move as the wind changes directions for a bit. If it stays in one direction for several days they will be stacked in there. When it changes back the big ones pack up and leaving the babies behind. The shad follow the plankton with the wind and the fish follow the plankton. Some Crappie are on shad but some are also on the top of 30-feet brush piles and roaming. They move in under docks on lights at dark as do the White Bass. There are a lot of Walleye out there with more larger ones than in the past. The Stripers that I am seeing are not schooled much.
