The lake level is 552.99 and is up just a bit with just 2-hours of running one generator last evening. The surface water temperature is 72-degrees and the water is clear both in the creeks and on the main lake. The lake overall is in excellent condition and level for boating, fishing and swimming.  Blackburns Resort and Boat Rental still has two cabins open for ther holiday so give Debbie a call at 870-492-5115 for a reservation before we fill up and you have to pay way too much elsewhere.  Scuba Steve expects a very busy holiday next weekend. Boat traffic was heavy yesterday. The White River at Newport is 3.75 feet and very low indicating not much water is being released anywhere. Crappie, Bass, Walleye and catfish are the best bites right now but the many guides are killing a lot of small Stripers to try and justify their high prices. Some charge as much as $600 for a 1/2 day. Wow.  Some are still in the $400 to$450 range. Compare prices. They have just about cleaned out the Hybrid Stripers. They continue to take pictures of dock floors and truck beds full of dead fish proud that they are hurting the lake. There are way too many of them. It is nice to have the lake at a perfect level so far this year and no high water. The lake is easily accessible and the Corps of Engineers have increased the parking at most public launches. Cranfield campground has the best beach and Panther Bay and Bidwell have good ones also and are all very close to Blackburns Resort and Boat Rental. You do not have to burn a lot of gas to get there. Pack a lunch so you do not have to pay over $20 for a frozen pizza. Crappie are nearly finished spawning and are on brush piles both part way back in the creeks and on main lake points. Use a jig or minnow. Set your minnow on a slip float about 2-3 feet deeper than you can see it.  Channel Cats are biting both prepared baits and live Bluegill under docks and around brush piles. Walleye are in front of brush in 12-16 ft. of water biting spoons. Trollers are catching a few on gravelly banks. Bass are biting finesse worms and crank baits. Scuba Steve had a report of channel cats biting on crankbaits and that means they are biting well. Blackburns Resort and Boat Rental continues to have the best resort with the best prices on both cabins and boat rentals in the Ozarks. Compare prices and give us at call. We especially welcome Veterrans and Police.
