The lake level is 552.90 and is up 1/2 inch in the last 24-hours with no generation. The White River at Newport is 4.89 feet and very low indicating not much water is being released anywhere. The water is clearing more both in the creeks and main lake with the creeks being stained a little green, good for fishing and is warming up again with the southerly winds and warm sunshine. It is 72-degrees in Blackburns Creek. There are a lot of fish in here including White Bass, Crappie, Black bass, Catfish and Redear Bluegill. You do not have to go far the catch fish. The spawn is progressing nicely with the stable water level and more are post spawn than spawning but still several on beds especially Crappie. Several that Scuba Steve is catching have not spawned yet but that is normal. Crappie spawn takes over a month on Norfork lake to finish. Kentucky Bass Spawn all summer. Smallmouth bass are post-spawn feeding very well right now. The top-water bite is in full swing with Bass, White Bass and smaller Stripers coming up early and again late part way back in bindblown creeks. Guides are killing and taking pictures of a lot of small stripers barely above in the 20-inch minimum to try and convince fishermen to spend $600 for four hours of fishing and hurting the lake. Ask them if they do not catch limits do you not have to pay. They are not catching them everyday but when they are feeding you do not need them. Good fishermen catch fish when the conditions are tough. Keep a Zara Spook Puppy,Spitin Image and a 5-inch soft plastic tied on for top-water and beat the bank in the slightly stained water the rest of the time with the lure of your choice. Scuba Steve likes small grubs and crature baits but crank baits, spinner baits and finesse worms are also working. Fishing is good right now and some are back in brush in 20-feet of water. Bluegill are pre-spawn feeding as are catfish. Compare prices and call 870-492-5115 at Blackburns Resort and Boat Rental for a reservation.
