The lake level is 551.13 and is the same as it was at this time yesterday with 5-hours of running one generator. The White River at Newport is 4.34 feet and very low indication not much water is being released anywhere. We received 1.5 inches of badly needed rain early Easter Sunday and the creeks run slowly. Most of it sank in and really made everything green and the grass grow rapidly. The surface water temperature is 59-degrees and has been stable for about 3-weeks. The fish are biting again after the cold front with Crappie and Bass being the best bites. White Bass, Walleye and Stripers have finished spawning and everything else wants to. Crappie, Bass, Bluegill, Carp, Catfish are all hanging out under Scuba Steve's dock. Big ones too. Every time you see big schools of Bluegill you can bet predator fish are closeby. Crappie are scattered and in various stages of spawn with males staging in creeks and females still mostly on main lake point brush. Bass are ready and just need a few more heat units. I would like the creeks to stain up more to stop all of the sight fishing during spawn. There are too many fishing tournaments this time of year. Once the males are caught off the nests the damage is done even if they are released after weigh-in. Hungry Bluegill are relentless. Our many lake guides are still bragging about how many fish they can kill everyday to get business at the expense of the fish population. Buy $5,000 worth of electronics and you are and instant guide and we have twice as many as ever before. Catch a few, keep a few and release a few and leave some for the next generation. There is no way people can catch $650 worth of fish to pay for a 6-hour fishing trip.It is good that everyone does not due this. The weather is to be beautiful this week with rain on the weekend and it is a perfect time to visit Norfork lake and Blackburns Resort and Boat Rental. Compare prices and give Debbie a call at 870-492-5115 for a reservation and we will not charge you too much. We especially welcome Veterans and Police. It is nice here and the price is right. A free stall for your boat comes with a cabin rental of two days or more. The $ you save staying at Blackburns can off-set the high cost of fuel.
