The lake level is 550.89 and is up 1/2 inch in the last 24-hours with no generation. The White River at Newport is 6.62 feet and low indicating not much water is being released anywhere. They should be holding the lake down into the high 540's for the spring rains but refuse to do so for some reason that nobody knows. The surface water temperature is 59-degrees and about normal for this time of year. It is cold out there with the cold front and north wind but will warm back up starting tomorrow. There is to be a frost tonight. Cold fronts just keep coming through in March and slow down fishing after the high pressure has been here a while. Right when the low pressure moves in and before it rains is the best fishing. Let it rain you out. When the wind moves to from the north and gets cold the fishing is not the best. Everything either has spawned or wants to very badly. The water level has been fairly stable without much quick rise or drop and that makes for a good spawn. Scuba Steve does not kill fish during the spawn but catches a lot of them then. Get them right back in the water before the Bluegill gobble the egges and spawn up from an unprotected nest.  They can clean out a nest faster than you can kiss a duck. There should be a limit on how many guides can be on the lake. They are outnumbering the fishermen now and hurting the lake. There are new ones almost every day and most are good fishermen and trying to monetize  People that say you cannot fish out a big lake or fish and kill a limit every day should check out why there are regulations on the ocean. Crappie may spawn a lot of eggs but onlu 1% survive.  Catch a few, keep a few and release a few for the next generation. No sense being a pig. Truck loads and dock floors full of dead fish should not make people want to go fishing with them but shy away from them. $650 for 6-hours of fishing does not pay off on how many fish you kill. They say people that pay for a license should be able to kill a limit every day but there is a possession limit.  .Scuba Steve went out to check out a rental boat for about an hour and caught a 3-lb. Bass and a 19-inch Walleye in front of one of his brush piles on his first two casts and caught 2-crappie and 4-more Bass after that. All were released on the spot. Blackburns Resort and Boat Rental area is a good place to fish because Scuba Steve puts in a lot of brush piles. He wishes more people would do that instead of just using the ones other people worked hard to put in and help the fishing. Guides should get together and do this. It is busy here at Blackburns Resort and Boat Rental with people taking advantage of the best place with the best prices on both cabins and Boat rentals in the Ozarks. We have many repeat customers and do not want to charge them too much. Compare prices and call Debbie at 870-492-5115 for a reservarion. It is nice here and the price is right. A free stall for your boat comes with a cabin rental of two days or more. Scuba Steve will show you where his brush piles are located and help you catch fish. This is a good time of year. April 15th to June 15th is the best fishing. The night bite is on for spawning Stripers and Scuba Steve knows where they are. It will not last long.
