The lake level is 550.48 and is up 1-1/2 inches in 24-hours with no generation for three days. Bryant Creek is almost back to normal so the lake would not rise much if they generated anything. The White River at Newport is 7.81 feet normal and dropping. They are trying to get the lake level back up to 553.75 which is the top of the power pool so they can flood us out again this year when the spring rains come. There is absolutely no reason to allow this to happen except for mismanagement and we have plenty of that. The Stripers are pre-spawn feeding as are the White Bass, Black Bass and Crappie. White Bass and Black Bass are the best bites right now. Some White bass have spawned. There are about 25-guides out there killing as many fish as they can everyday to impress potential customers but it just makes them look like gluttons trying to hawk guide trips and their own lures. They sure do not like being called on it. There are only so many ways to make soft plastic lures. They are hurting the lake and there are too many of them. There used to be about 5. They come and go and usually weed themselves out and will with prices as high as $650 for six hours of fishing. There needs to be a boat limit for fish no matter how many people are on it. Catch a few, keep a few, release a few and leave some for the youngsters. Just because it is legal to kill lots of fish does not mean you should. Scuba Steve mowed the lawn yesterday for the first time this year and does not usually have to do that until April. It won't grow much tonight or tomorrow night with a hard freeze warning. After that the highs are to be in the 80's the end of next week. March is very unpredictable but the Bass and Crappie Spawn looks to be early this year. I have not had a chance to check out the Catfishing yet but it could start early also and Scuba Steve will let you know.
