The lake level is 546.03 and is up just a bit in the last 24-hours. They run one generator from 9 AM-noon today. The level is exactly where Scuba steve likes it going into the spring rains but does not need to drop any further. They now need to not quit generating when it rains and try to keep it at this level for as long as they can without flooding out anybody down stream. The top of the power pool is 553.75 and there is no reason to regulate it that high in the winter time especially in dry conditions. The water is too high when it exceeds 560. The wind yesterday was incessant but not too bad in Blackburns protected cove. The hills do not stop the wind but just makes it swirl and change direction. Scuba Steve is not a fan of the wind. Some say the wind is your friend and if that is so you can have my share. I have all the friends I need at about 5-MPH. That does not mean the fish do not bite on windy days it just means it is not pleasant to be out there. The surface water temperature is 47-degrees and the water stained up a bit with the wind mixing things up. Bass continue to be the best bite around cover in about 35-feet of water part way back in the creeks on secondary points and drop-offs. Scuba Steve likes Kentucky Bass. They make good sammiches. Two fillets between two pieces of buttered bread peppered with a slice of onion. is pretty good. The lake overall is in good condition but fishing is just fair. You can expect cold fronts at leat once a week through March slowing fishing followed by high pressure and cold nights. After that cloudy and warmer. Fish until it rains you out and the process starts over again. March is not the best month for fishing here but you can catch some if you know what you are doing. After April 15th and through June 15th are much better when the top-water bite is in full swing and the weather is more pleasant and the Walleye move back into the area after spawn on brush piles in 16-feet of water and bite jigging spoons. The thermocline usually forms at that depth in early May and the big Crappie have spawned and are with the Walleye. This is prime fishing.
