The lake level was 545.47 and had dropped 1-inch in the last 24-hours with variable amounts of generation when Scuba Steve came in at dark last evening. They do not need to drop the lake anymore and do not have to if they do not want to. There is plenty of spring water coming in from Bryant Creek and the Norfork River to satisfy all of the city water needs. They shut down coal and natural gas plants and then say they need electricity. I do not know who is more incompetent the Corps of Engineers or the Southwestern Power. They are both federal government and one hand does not know what the other is doing. The White River at Newport is 3.68 feet and the surface water temperature is 48+ degrees and rising. There will be no shad kill this year and there is plenty of baitfish to keep everything healthy. We will see what the spring brings but things look good so far. The lake is very clear near the shore and Scuba Steve could see his lure down 5-6 feet on the main lake. He caught 2-bass and 3-crappie in 2-hours of fishing. Not the best. He released all of them. Overall the lake is in good condition and at a good clarity for fishing but fishing is just fair. If you are going out with a guide who is charging you $600+ for a partial day ask him if he has a no catch no pay policy. They report being booked up for the next two months. No need to call them. Come on back the last of April, all of May and early June. It is going to rain on Saturday and the frost is out of the ground and it should all sink in. They usually quit generating when it rains because nobody knows. Advice: When you see a few shad and Seaguls on the top drop a spoon down deeper.
