The lake level is 546.63 and has dropped 3/4 of an inch in the last 24-hours with varying amounts of generation. The surface water temperature is 45-degrees and the water is fairly clear but not where it should be in Fevruary. Scuba Steve could see his l,ure down about 5-feet on the main lake and less in the creeks. The White River at Newport is 7.21 feet and normal. The lake overall is in good condition for fishing but the level does not need to drop anymore. It will not drop if they do not let out too much water. They close down coal and natural gas power plants for global warming and then say they need more electricity because it is cold out. Government, you gotta love em.  It does not look like the water temperature will drop enough this winter for a shad kill and that is good. The more bait fish the better. It will take a very cold streak for it to happen to drop the water temperature down to the high 30's. We get a cold front every week through March but also some warm days. Some open water fish continue to be in deep water near the bottom and are mostly White Bass and a few small Stripers. Some others are above the shad schools and feeding on wounded shad floating up shallow from the lower feeding fish. Some Crappie are on brush during the day and some Kentucky Bass and Walleye are with them.  They move in under lights with the shad to feed after dark. 4:PM and 9;PM are the best bites. Fish wind blown banks and main lake points near deep water where the river channel swings to the steep banks. Look for the warmest water. Blackburns resort will have no price increases for 2026 and continues to have the best place with the best price on both Cabins and Boat Rentals in the Ozarks.
