The lake level is 549.12 and has dropped 1-inch in the last 24-hours with one generator running for about 8-hours. We remain very dry and need rain badly. The surface water temperature is 52-degrees and the water is fairly clear but not what it should be for January. Scuba Steve could see his lure down about 5-feet in the sunshine. He would like the level to drop about one more foot going into the spring rains. Overall the lake is at a good level and a good color for fishing but fishing is just fair. The best bites are early morning for open water fish, about 4:PM for Crappie, after dark under lights for schooled fish on shad. 1/4 ounce Bink's Spoons are the best lures. When it gets dark it is too cold to be out there as it cools rapidly after sunset. People are catching fish off Scuba Steve's dock but the North wind is cold. You have to really hate them. When the wind lays and the sun is shining it is not bad. We have several hearty fishermen in now and they are catching fish but not a lot. The White River at Newport is 3.72 feet and remains very low in dicating not much water is being released anywhere. Now is the time to book your spring fishing trip and summer family vaction.
