The lake level is 549.30 and is the same as it was at this time yesterday with one generator running for 2-hours and 1/2 generator running for 3-hours. The White River at Newport is 3.25 feet and low. The surface water temperature is 52+ degrees and stable. The water is clearing again and Scuba Steve can see his lure down about 5-feet on the main lake. It is very clear near the shore. We are receiving some very light rain today but not much and we are very dry. It is to be cool for a couple of days and then warm up. Overall the lake is in good condition and at a good level for fishing but I would like the level to drop another 1-1/2 feet before the springs rains. It is getting very old being flooded out every year when we do not need to be. Better management is needed. Trollers are catching some smaller Stripers and White Bass dragging umbrellas through shad but it is spotty. Several schools of shad are not holding any predator fish but some are. It is either feast or famine. There are a lot of 2-4 pound stripers out there but not a lot of big ones. The best bite for Crappie remains about 4-PM but does not last long. Several fish of different species are coming in under lights after dark as the shad move in. Spoons are the best lures for them. Some Walleye are on or near brush in 20-30 ft. of water with some Kentucky Bass with them. Most of the larger Bass are on shad in open water with a few Smallmouth. White Bass are also on the flats in 50-60 feet of water near the bottom. Most are not the big ones there. Some Bass and Crappie are moving in shallow in the late evening to feed near cover. There is a lot of bait fish out there. Nothing is going hungry but you have to catch them feeding. It is not easy. Blackburns Resort and Boat Rental continues to have the best place with the best prices in the Ozarks and are open all year. You can launch and park right here. Give Debbie a call at 870-492-5115 for a reservation and be the closest resort to Mountain Home, dining and shopping. You can get food delivered here also. It is nice here and the price is right. We especially welcome Veterans and Police. We have some good brush piles and will add more from Blackburns 26-acres of Cedar forest. It is that time again.
