Caught on the Bink's Spoon.
Caught on the Bink's Spoon.

The lake level is 549.70 and has dropped 2-inches in the last 24-hours with both generators running for 7-hours. The White River at Newport is the indicator of how much water is being released and is 3.98 feet and very low. It is the gauge where the Corps of Engineers and Southwest Power decide the releases from the area lakes and is something that is important to watch.  It is very dry here with no rain in sight. We are 4-feet below the top of the power pool and about normal for this time of year. The surface water temperature is 56-degrees on the main lake and the water is stained and Scuba Steve could see his lure down 3-4 feet. Ovarall the lake is in good condition and at a good level for fishing except it has been windy. Fish the south facing banks and points until the wind shifts to the north again and it will. The Plankton blow with the wind and the shad follow the plankton. Find a school of shad and drop a spoon for Largemouth Bass and Temperate Bass. There is a lot of baitfish out there and not all are holding predator fish. If you see sone lethargic or wounded Shad on thje surface it is an indicator bigger fish are feeding below that. Again drop a spoon right on their heads.  If it is windy drift fish over brush with a grub and minnow or a Bobby Garland Baby Shad Blue Ice in Color for Crappie and Kentucky Bass. If not uses a 1/4 ounce Bink's Spoon right in the brush. The fish move up shallow 4-6 feet down at about 4:PM. Some smaller fish are right on the bank. Overall fishing is just fair but it is feast or famine. Some nice ones are being caught everyday. The weather has been warm and windy but will get cold on Sunday for a short time and then warm up again. It is a typical December but dry with no moisture of any kind in the near future. Scuba Steve is now starting to catch some larger fish and that is what he is looking for. He is not interested in dock floors full of dead fish. Catch a few, release a few and keep a few. Leave some for the future. Blackburns Resort and Boat Rental continues to have the best place with the best prices on both cabins and boat rentals in the Ozarks. A free stall for your boat comes with a cabin rental of two days or more. Compare prices and give Debbie a call at 870-492-5115 for a reservation. It is nice here and the price is right.
