The lake level is 549.88 and has dropped just a bit in the last 24-hours with both generators running for 2-hours. They have cut back again. The White River at Newport is 5.52 and rising slowly but still low. The surface water temperature is 57-degrees and has been fairly stable for a few days. The water is still stained and Scuba Steve could see his lure down about 4-feet in the sunshine. We are getting dry again and need some rain but none is in sight. It is 53-degrees here today and sunny and beautiful. Wish you were here. Blackburns has several fishermen in and they are fishing a tournament on both Bull Shoals and Norfork. They have good weather for it but not the. best fishing conditions. Scuba Steve does not like high pressure, sunny skies and a big moon and when these are the conditions he goes out in the late afternoon and fishes shadowy banks that the wind has been blowing into around cover until dark. They usually start biting about 4:PM this time of year if they are going to. Open water fish on Shad can bite anytime but Bass, Crappie and Walleye (which Scuba Steve is looking for as he has no use for White Bass) are slow during the middle of the day. You can sometimes find an active fish or two during the day but not many and the bite in the evening only lasts a few minutes maybe up to 1/2 hour but you can catch some nice ones. I have been catching 5-6 fish in about 1-1/2 hours of fishing from about 3:30 PM to 5-PM. They quit at dark. You can spoon up some open water fish early if you like the cold. Scuba Steve goes out at the warmest part of the day and comes in when it starts to cool off. He does not hate them that bad and is not trying to make a living on how amy fish he can kill. He catches a few, keeps a few and releases a few. No dock floors full of dead fish here. It is not impressive to me to see it. Kind of like a fat boy at a buffet. Too many of them and the food is all gone. If you are in the Mountain Home area for the holidays and do not want to stay at a 1-room motel and pay too much give Debbie a call at 870-492-5115 for a reservation and stay in a kitchen cabin. It is nice here and the price is right.  We offer plenty of room and peace and quiet. Bring your own boat and launch it right here and put it in our big dock with security system for free. We are closest to Mountain Home, dining and shopping and have tackle and live bait on site. You can cook in, have food delivered or dine out just a few minutes away. We have it all and at the best price.
