The lake level is 550.96 and is down just a bit with 1/2 generator running for a few hours. The White River at Newport is 5.10 ft. and dropping and very low indicating not much water is being released anywhere. The surface water temperature is 68-degrees and stable. The water is clearing and Scuba Steve could see his lure down about 5-feet. It is a good color for fishing. It was a beautiful day today but a little windy but the fish were biting. He does not like wind but it does not hurt fishing any but requires a little different technique. Scuba Steve caught some good ones. He likes this time of year especially when it is in the 70's. The moon is big and the stripers are on the windblown banks at dark feeding on shad using a stick bait. He caught fish on his brush piles on a main lake point with the south wind blowing into it in 16-feet of water on a 2-inch Bobby Garland Baby Shad Blue Ice in color jig on a 1/16th ounce jig head white with red eye. If it is windy let it blow you over the brush and then go around it and do it over again. Do not go against the wind in this case. The fish are there waiting for the bait to blow to them and are not as sensitive to trolling motors with wind. No wind do the opposite and use your trolling motor sparingly. Scuba Steve does not troll and really likes to feel the crappie, walleye and bass thump the jig and he knows what it is. Chugging around the lake dragging stuff on a rod holder and waiting for something to bite and hook itself is not for him. If you cannot catch fish anyother way you have to do what you have to do. He is not out there meat hunting. He is out there enjoying nature, peace and quiet and trying to outsmart fish without using electronics. He does not need that. Scuba has never seen a more beautiful lake with a lot of fish without a lot of boat traffic in the best area in the country. He is not trying to get you to move here but thinks you should visit Blackburns Resort and Boat Rental and enjoy what he does every day and then go home and enjoy his place as a sanctuary. Come on down we will not charge you too much. Compare prices. It is nice here and the price is right.
