The lake level is 551.34 and has dropped 1-inch in the last 24-hours with 1/3rd of a generator running continuously and is about where it should be for this time of year. The surface water temperature is 71-degrees and dropping with the cool nights. The weather has been beautiful but we have a good chance of rain later this week for a couple of days. We need it badly. The main lake is still stained green after the turnover but is trying to clear. One day the creeks clear up and the next day they are green again. Mabe it is the windy days mixing it up. It was breezy yesterday. The White River at Newport is 4.99 feet and steady and very low. Some fish are in open water on shad, especially White Bass, and some are on brush piles from 18-30 ft. of water. Catfish are laying on bigger brush near the bottom. 1/4 ounce Bink's spoons are working well as are live minnows on slip floats. Scuba Steve is also using a 2-inch white twister tail, with the tail turned up, on a 1/16th ounce white with red eye jig head tipped with a small live minnow and casting it past the brush and letting it sink into it. If you don't use live bait, try a 2-inch Bobby Garland Baby Shad, blue ice in color and do the same thing. One or the others will work. The best bite is from sunset until dark. The fall foliage is slowly changing and there is not much color on the lakesides but there is a little on the roadsides. I am not sure of when it will peak or how much color there will be but I will keep you informed. It is still a good time to visit Blackburns Resort and Boat Rental and Norfork lake. There is low boat traffic, peace and quiet, the fish are biting better and the prices are low here at Blackburns. You can get a one bedroom cabin for $69/day and a two bedroom for $89/day. 3&4 bedrooms are priced accordingly. You can't best that anywhere and a free stall for your boat at our big dock comes with a cabin rental of two days or more. You can launch right here and do not have to go down a cliff to get to the lake or go elsewhere to launch. Scuba Steve will show you where his brush piles are located. We especially welcome Veterans and Police. Call Debbie at 870-492-5115 for a reservation. It is nice here and we will not charge you too much. We have live bait and fishing tackle right here also at good prices and are the closest resort to Mountain Home, dining and shopping.
