Tha lake level is 552.98 and has dropped 1.3 inches in the last 24-hours with one generator running for about 3-hours starting about 6:PM and 1/3rd generator running the rest of the time. The surface water temperature is 78-degrees and the water is still stained green with poor visibility. The White River at Newport is 8.95 feet and dropping again. All area lakes are now below the tops of their power pools finally after being held up too high for too long this summer. When they do that it kills the vegetation near the shoreline and the cockleburs take over. It will not be a a good year for long-haired dogs to play on the shore or many good places for limb lines the next few years. Scuba Steve always looks foreward to Catfishing in May and prefers limb lines. For an article on "how to catch Catfish on Norfork lake" go to www.norfork.com and you will then know. The White Bass are Schooled and feeding in early morning but I am not sure about where they are susposed to be running to except for following shad. They always do this in the fall and migrate up-river in February and early March for spawn. They will be on shad in front of the houses on Mallard Point sooner than later. I do not fish for them because any fish that you have to cut meat off of to eat are not for me. Scuba Steve prefers Walleye, Crappie, Bluegill, Kentucky Bass and Flathead Catfish. White Bass are fun to catch though and I am glad they are in the lake. They keep the fishing pressure off the good eating fish and are easily caught. There was a top-water bite this morning for Bass and that is good news. Fishing is picking up and Scuba Steve's brush piles are at a perfect level now. He will show you where when you get here. It would not bother me if the weather stayed like this for two more months. It is beautiful. There has not been much change in the fall foliage color this last week but my Maple tree and Burning Bush are getting a little more color. We are still getting tomatoes and peppers out of the garden and the flowers are beautiful and the grass is green and filling in nicely after the very hot and dry late summer when everything turned brown. I am surprised it came out of it and always like to go into the winter with moisture in the ground and the grass going to seed. The lake is gradually dropping in temperature and unless it gets cold all of a sudden there will not be much of a lake turnover. When I go diving there is not much of a temperature change from 0-40 ft. of water. You can feel the difference but not much but the visibility does get a little better at about 35-feet. I will check it out again tomorrow but am not expecting to be able to see much. You cannot tell visibility by looking at the water from the top or by looking at your fish finder. You have to get down there to it or put a camera down. This is an excellent time to visit Mountain Home, Norfork lake and Blackburns Resort and Boat Rental.
