The lake level is 555.68 and has dropped 2-3/4 inches in the last 24-hours with less generation since we hit the top of the power pool of 555.75. The power pool top drops 2-feet the last of the month and we will see what they do but do not expect much. The White River at Newport is 11.80 feet and dropping. The surface water temperature is 80-degrees and the thermocline is still at 30-feet but is not as pronounced as it was. The water is stained green from the algae bloom and the visibility is poor down to the thermocline. The lake is at a good level for Scuba Steve's Brush piles and there are fish on them but they are not feeding very well. It looks like it will take a while for the lake to clear up and with the hot weather coming for the next week it does not look like there will be much chance of the top of the water column getting colder than the thermocline and the lake turning any time soon. We are kind of in a funk until that happens but some nice fish are being caught everyday but not many. Crappie and Bass are the best bites. It has put a hurt on scuba diving activities. Scuba Steve will be out there everyday and will keep you informed on when the thermocline goes away and the water starts to clear. It is very dry and Bryant creek is only running a little over 4-feet so not much cold spring water is coming in from the Norfork River and that is what keeps the lake clear and free of algae. It is as bad as I have seen it in a long time. They just held the lake up too high for too long in the vegetation. There is a lot of baitfish out there and the predator fish have to eat sometime. The last part of October and November are typically nearly the best times with the best weather to catch big fish and are about as good as the last half of April and all of May. Scuba Steve catches his largest Crappie in the winter. March is not his favorite month with all of the cold fronts coming through.
