The lake level is 556.53 abd has dropped 3-1/2 inches in the last 24-hours with 1-1/3rd generators running most of the time. The White River at Newport is 12.20 feet and steady and the surface water temperature is 80+ degrees and dropping with the cooler nights. The water clarity is stained with the algae bloom and is slow clearing up. The Striped Bass kill-off is over with several of the larger ones dying off. They can try to put a positive spin on it like all government but the fact remains that they held the water up too high for too long when they did not have to. It does not make a lot of sense to stock them and have them die when they get big. Their answer is to just stock more. I say better lake management is the answer. There is no sense in keeping the White River at Newport at 12-feet and holding the lakes up so hih and then quit generating when they hit the top of the power pool. Fishing overall is not the best but some nice Bass and Crappie are being caught on the spoon with reaction strikes but the fish Scuba Steve is catching are vold of any food except for an occasional crawdad. They certainly are not feeding heavily. It will get better soom. The big moon is not helping anything except for the Bluegill. Lake conditions are are conducive for good fishing, with both pole and scuba diving in a few days. The water has to clear after the thermocline goes away. It is still right at 30-feet but is not as pronounced as it was. A small spoon or Crappie jig dropped into the tops of brush piles at 20-23 feet will catch some fish. Bass are right in the brush along with a few Walleye. Some Catfish are showing up. Drop it right on their heads.
