The lake level is 563.54 and has dropped 3-inches in the last 24-hours with less that one generator running since midnight. They are holding the lake up as high as possible for as long as p;ossible and are now predicting it will get down to 555.75 on 13 September. The long time high water is causing the shoreline vegeation to die and also causing an early Striper Kill. Big dead stripers are floating around down by the dam all over the place. It is hard to tell but Scuba Steve thinks more sink to the bottom than float to the top. This could be a big one. If it happens it usually happens the last part of August but is early this year. It is a shame to stock them and then let them die. Also the Crappie have moved back to the 27-ft. brush piles and that usually happens on the 26th of August. Big schools are just above the brush. The thermocline is now at 30-feet with cool water starting at 23-feet and cold at 30. The visibility is much better and Scuba Conditions have improved. The surface water temperature is 87-degrees and the White Rvier at Newport is 13.91 feet and dropping. All of this high water could be gone if they wanted to with out any problems downstream. It is a classic example of government incompetence. The Corps of Engineers need to be disbanned and put under control of the Department of Interior and given some accountability. Now they have none. The hot weather with not much chance of rain is scheduled to continue through this weekend. It is very dry here and they need to put a burn ban on. Blackburns Resort and Boat Rental continues to have the best place with the best prices on both cabins and boat rentals in the Ozarks. A free stall for your boat at our dock comes with a cabin rental of two days or more. We have one cabin and one pontoon available for Labor Day. Cabins start at $90/day and Pontoons at $115. Compare prices and call Debbie at 870-492-5115 for a reservation. It is nice here and the price is right. Our big pool with slide and baby pool is open.
