Can The lake level is 568.75 and has risen 3-inches in the last 24-hours with dam discharge equal to 3-1/3rd generators. If they slow this down the lake will rise rapidly. They have already slowed discharge at Bull Shoals and it is up but is on the White River and holds more water. Norfork is not on the White River chain of lakes. The White River at Newport is 24.17 feet and rising a bit but has been pretty stable but high for about 3-weeks. We received 0.6 inches of rain yesterday afternoon and this morning and the creeks are running brown in Blackburns area. Bryant creek is 7.05 feet and has crested again but still sending a lot of water our way. I do not see the lake dropping very much very soon. Surface water temperature is right at 70-degrees and pretty stable. It should not rise much in the next few days with cooler ambient temperatures. There is a top-water bite most mornings early but mostly smaller Stripers, Hybrids and White Bass. Fish are coming to shad under lights after dark on docks. If the fish come up in the evenings it is usuall smaller Bass. Many Crappie and Bass have spawned but some are still at it. I have not seen fry of any kind under my dock yet but there are a lot of Crappie, Bluegill and Catfish under there. The water was clearing but has stained up brownish again so you cannot see very well. I also have not seen the Carp spawning. You can fish the old shoreline before the lake rise in and behind the buckbrush with a creature bait, jig, grub and minnow or a small spinner bait and catch about anything now. There are several trollers in front of the docks on Mallard Point catching smaller Stripers and White Bass dragging stuff through shad. Flathead Catfishing on 3-inch live Bluegill is about as good as it gets. You will start to see some pictures soon on the internet when others catch on. Scuba Steve was catching all Flathead but picked up about a 4-lb. Channel Cat last evening. I give them to our longest returning guest here at Blackburns Resort and Boat Rental. Jim Lesniewiski has been returning to Blackburns twice a year from St. Louis since the mid 1940's and grew up with Freddy Blackburn when he visited with his parents. They got in a lot of mischief. It was not a lake then. His wife Marlene joined him in the early 1970's and has not missed a trip. They are about as nice a people as you will ever meet. How is that for a story about Norfork lake history? I can talk to them for hours. Blackburns Resort and Boat Rental continues to have the best place with the best prices on both cabins and boat rentals in the Ozarks and a free stall for your boat at our big dock comes with a cabin rental of two days or more.
