Norfork Lake Arkansas near Mountain Home in the Ozarks Mountains Region fishing report and lake condition by Scuba Steve from Blackburns Resort and Boat Rental.

4/21/2025

The lake level is 569.20 and has risen 3-1/2 inches in the last 24-hours with one generator running continuously and spillway gates open to an equivalent of another 2-1/4 generators for a total of 3-1/4. That is quite a bit but not enough to keep up with the inflow. Bryant Creek at Tecumseh is 7.82 feet and has crested again but a lot of water is heading our way. The White River at Newport is 24.22 feet and below minor flood stage of 26-feet and has been stable but they are running Bull Shoals very heavily. The water coming into the lake is warm and is runoff and not the cold spring water and is warming the lake quickly. It was 65-degrees last evening and warmer in the middle of the river channel. The water is brown everywhere in the Blackburns Creek area.  Blackburns Resort and Boat Rental missed all of the severe weather yesterday afternoon and received less than 1-inch of rain but it came fast and the creeks run brown. Everything is very green here and Scuba Steve has to get right at mowing the yard for the fourth time this year. Flowers are blooming everywhere. I do not know why the top-water bite has been slow but it will not be for long. A lot of Stripers, Hybrids and Walleye are being washed over the dam spillway and that does not make the Trout fishermen happy. Stripers can eat Trout faster than they can stock them and are easy prey.  Trout fishermen catch them in the river and throw them up on the bank. It is almost like a derangement syndrome. Scuba Steve feels the same way about Asian Carp and Gar. Now is the time to go catfishing with the rising water and moon getting smaller. Try live Bluegill about 3-inches long. The spawn is in full swing for Bass and Crappie and it looks to be a good one. No sight fishing this year and that is good. Shad are everywhere in the backs of the windblown creeks and nothing is going hungry.  Blackburns Resort and Boat Rental continues to have the best place with the best price on both cabins and boat rentals in the in the Ozarks and a free stall for your boat comes with a cabin rental of two days or more.
