Norfork Lake Arkansas near Mountain Home in the Ozarks Mountains Region fishing report and lake condition by Scuba Steve from Blackburns Resort and Boat Rental.

The lake level is 568.91 and has dropped 5-3/4 inches in the last 24-hours with one generator running continuously and spillway gates open an equivalent of another 2-1/4 generators. The White River at Newport is 24.95 feet and stable and in its banks but very high. The surface water temperature is 62-degrees and most of the debris has stuck on the bank. The water is tea colored in Blackburns area and is about the color of a Northwest Ontario lake. Color is not an issue as far a fishing goes but the quickly dropping water level is. Bass wanting to spawn do not like it and Crappie like it less. They just quit feeding and move out to deeper water and wait. You have to drop a creature bait right on their heads to get a reaction strike at or near the old shoreline before the rain. The moon is getting smaller but a big moon on a clear night and dropping river will definitely slow down the Catfish bite to almost a stop.  Scuba Steve likes Catfishing. The top-water bite for stripers and spawned out Bass will be the best bite soon. When the thermocline forms when the surface water temperature hits about 70- the walleye will get good. Scuba Steve will let you know.  The lake has dropped 1-1/2 feet since they opened the spillway gates. Everything depends on how much rain we get in the Norfork River watershed in Missouri the next couple of days. It could be significant and they always quit generating when it rains but nobody can predict what the govenment will do. They do seem to be more willing to keep the White River at Newport higher than they used to and that is a better plan than just hold and hope and then flood everything out downstream when they cannot hold anymore while keeping Table Rock Lake normal to protect Branson Landing from flooding. It is normal now. Norfork is 15-feet high. No politics here. The lakes are just for flood control. Right. The only ones surprised that it rains in the spring are the ones managing the lake levels. I used to say that my dog Toby could do it better but he died. Elon and DOGE need to do an audit on the Corps of Engineers. The wind has been incessant during the day and the best times to go fishing are early morning before it comes up, take the middle of the day off and go out again about 6:PM. If is is going to lay it will do so by then. People who like wind and high muddy water should be very happy right now. Not Scuba Steve.
