The Gracyalnys and Dale Steadman from Wisconsin just left. Nice fellows. Always welcome here. The lake level is 569.87 and has risen 3-inches in the last 24-hours with one generator running about 8-hours. It is still rising slowly with the one generator running so it has not crested yet. Bryant creek at Tecumseh is 5.56 feet and dropping slowly and is normal. The White River at Newport has crested and is at 29.84 feet where 26-feet is flood stage. The surface water temperature is 59-degrees in the Blackburns Creek area. The water is muddy north of Cranfield Island, A little off-color in The Blackburns Creek area and fairly clear south of Robinson Island. The creeks are light brown but trying to clear. The wind has moved to from the North and is gusty blowing some debris but also some fish to the North facing creeks. People that like muddy high water are getting their way and should be very happy dodging the debris. Scuba Steve does not. The spawn for crappie will start soon and also for Bass. Scuba Steve also does not like sight fishing for spawning Bass and there will not be much of that this year. The male Crappie are staging in the creeks and are in the buckbrush so trollers will not be able to get them off the nests. He likes that and also likes the fact that March is over. The top-water bite for Stripers and Bass is ready to start so keep a clear Zara Spook for Stripers and a Spitin Image for Bass handy and practice walking the dog. You have to have a medium heavy rod to do this. 6-1/2 ft. works fine. I you can do this well you can call them back up after they go down. Shad can be shallow on Plankton blowing with the wind against the bank, be hearded up by the Stripers and lethargic injured ones hurt by feeding Stripers below. Stripers get extremely active when the shad spawn near a full moon but that has not happened yet. Anyway be ready for them just before sunrise. You will start seeing more fish posted soon as the water warms. Go with the wind for sure. Blackburns Resort and Boat Rental continues to be the home of the $69/day 1-bedroom cabins. 2,3,4 bedrooms are priced accordingly.
