Lexie Eakle from Ames, Iowa with some nice Norfork lake Crappie. The lake level is 553.77 and is the same as it was at this time yesterday with four hours of generation. The White River at Newport is 5.83 feet, about ready to dry up, indicating not much water is being released anywhere. It has been very dry and they refuse to drop the lake for the upcoming spring rains next week. The surface water temperature is 57-degrees and rising and the main lake is fairly clear and Scuba Steve could see his lure down about 4-5 feet on the main lake. The creeks are stained green with the most clarity near the shore. Overall the lake is in excellent condition and at a good level for fishing. The male Crappie have moved up shallow in Middle and East Pigeon and the spawn is not far off especially for the larger fish. Some Stripers are being caught in open water on shad both on the spoon and trolling umbrellas. Bass are part way back in the creeks around docks and any wood. A few Bass are coming up on shad in the creeks in the evening in the warmest water. Quite a bit of rain is on the way but we can handle some with the very dry conditions. 2-3 inches would not hurt anything but it could be more. They usually flood the lake and then inspect the docks to make sure you can fly an airplane under the electric wire. I had to mow the yard already. I sure wish they would have dropped the lake about six more feet this winter but it is government. Do not expect much do not get much. I was hoping for a stable lake level this spring for the spawn but we shall see what happens. When it rains hard watch the Bryant Creek level at Tecumseh as an indicator of what is going to happen with the Level of Norfork lake. It is the major tributary and if it rises quickly you can count on Norfork doing the same. Also watch the rain amouts in Gainsville and Ava, Missouri. The fishermen for the Bass Masters next week would do well to bring their best rain gear.
