The lake level is 553.69 and has risen 3/4 inch in the last 24-hours with no generation. They always quit when they hit the top of the power pool of 553.75 or when it rains. The surface water temperature is in the mid 50's depending on where you are and how much sunshine. The water is clearing and Suba Steve could see his lure down over 5-feet. The White River at Newport is 13.57 feet and stable. The lake overall is in excellent condition and at a good level but fishing is just fair. The crappie are full of eggs with bloodlines and are just waiting for the water temperature to break the 60's. The Walleye are moving back downstream from the spawn and some are back already. This is the time for the Striper spawn and the after dark fishing in the full moon for them with a stick bait. The Crappie are coming up in shallow water to feed at dark. This is definitely a transition period. March is Scuba Steve's least favorite month for fishing with the wind and the cold fronts. The top-water bite starts about Aprol 15th and is much better. Bass fishing is the best right now but I have not been out Striper Fishing. I am still catching some big crappie dropping a medium sized minnow on a slip float and dropping it to the bottom around brush in 30-ft. of water and reeling up very slowly and jigging it a bit.
