The lake level is 553.99 and has dropped 1-inch in the last 24-hours with generation about 2/3rds the time. They will probably slow way down again when it gets just below 553.75 like usual. The White River at Newport is 14.09 feet and dropping. The surface water temperature is 45-degrees and steady. It was cold, windy and miserable yesterday with a high of 43. I was able to fish in Blackburns Creek because it is protected but at the mouth at the main lake the white caps were brutal. It blew itself out now and it is sunny but another front is coming through this weekend with more wind. It is not unusual for March. That is why you have to remove all dead trees near anything you care about. I mark them in the summer and remove them in the winter before spring every year. Now is the time to fish windblown creeks and find the shad. Blackburns have several good fishermen in now and we will see what they catch. Most are tournament Bass fishermen. The Buell family from Wisconsin and Michigan just left and caught some very nice fish. Josh reports going up to the border and finding Stripers and Walleye with some very large Bass being caught. They are all good fishermen and hit it hard. They are out before me and come in after me and that is saying something. It is always good to have them visit. Sorry about what they had to go home to. I lived in northerm Maine and Minnesota and understand. That is why I am in Arkansas. I like snowmobiling, cross country skiing and ice fishing but am finished with it. I still have a nice set of snow shoes if anyone wants to trade. They have not been used in 31-seasons and they were only worn to go to Church on Sundays.
