The lake level is 553.84 and has dropped 2.2 inches in the last 24-hours with generation about 1/2 the time. The White River at Newport is 17.67 feet and dropping and we are approacing the top of the power pool where they have recently been holding to or near. All area lakes are at or near the tops of their power pools with not much surge capacity. Why do they not drop the lakes for the winter to make room for spring rains and then flood us out? Elon needs to do an investigation. I hope the people managing the lake levels do a voluntary retirement. The surface water temperature is 47-degrees and dropping again and cold weather is coming again for a few days. It is not to get low night time temperatures but just not warm up during the day. It is 1/3rd the way through February so we are headed in the right direction. The spring top-water bite usually starts about April 15th so we are not far away. March fishing can be very up and down do to the cold fronts coming through every week and you have to pick your days but it is much better than drilling holes in the water or walking or driving on it. I am finished with that. The Stripers should be on their spawning banks on the full moon in March for the night bite which is the 14th. Some Walleye will head up river late this month. The Walleye that I am catching are not ready to spawn yet. It was a little windy when Scuba Steve went out yesterday but it layed about 5:PM and it was a pleasant evening for fishing. I went Bass fishing and caught a few on the grub and minnow but not too many. They were all Kentucky Bass and I released them under the dock. Tom Kelly's trophy pond is all stocked up and does not need any more big fish. I will put in a few more Walleye and Fathead Minnows for food until spawn but other than that it is ready. There are some big fish in there. The lake overall is in good condition and at a good level but fishing is just fair. The water is clearing and I could see my lure down about 4-feet.They bite for about 30-minutes and then quit. And I mean quit. Sunny days after a cold front moves in are not usually very good. Warm days on weekends bring out several boats but most of the time Scuba Steve is the only boater and he likes that. We are working hard to get the resort and the boats ready for your visit and continue to be the home of the $69/day one bedroom cabins and $89/day two bedrooms. Three and four bedrooms are priced accordingly. Compare prices and give Debbie a call at 870-492-5115 for a reservation. It is nice here and the price is right. We especially welcome Veterans and Police and have many repeat customers. Come on down and we will not charge you too much and a free stall for your boat at our big dock comes with a cabin rental of two days or more. Scuba Steve will show you where his new brush piles are located. No we are not for sale and are not sold. We like it here and so will you and continue to be family owned and family operated. Old Glory and the Thin Blue Line Flag Fly Proudly over Blackburns Resort and Boat Rental. We like that too.
