Elizabeth Welch with a 16-1/2 inch Crappie.
The lake level is 552.97 and has dropped 4-1/2 inches in the last 24-hours with both generators running continuously. The surface water temperature is 46-degrees on the main lake and 44 in Blackburns Creek in the shallower water. The White River at Newport is 12.34 feet and rising and the water is stained a little brownish color with the heavy generation. Striper, Crappie and Bass fishing are all pretty good on the jigging spoon both in open water and on brush. it is cold out there but should warm back up by the weekend. Scuba Steve is also catching some big Crappie near brush in the evening on 2-1/2 inch live minnows on a slip float and casting a small grub tipped with a small live minnow past the brush and letting it sink into it. Several fish are 16-20 feet down. Kentucky Bass are biting part way back in the deeper creeks around secondary points on the 3-inch green grub on a 3/16th ounce jig head. Overall the lake is in excellent condition and at a good level for fishing. It is not too bad out there weather-wise if the wind is not blowing. North wind and 20-degrees is not too good. Now is the time to plan your spring fishing trip and summer family vacation. Compare prices and give Debbie a call at 870-492-5115 for a reservation. Blackburns is the best place with the best price and is closest to Mountain Home dining and shopping. It is nice here and the price is right. We especially welcome Veterans and Police. Scuba Steve is a Veteran but does not need nearly as much policing as he used to. Nobody has ever been able to figure this out. He will show you where his brush piles are located though. He does catch quite a few big fish.
