Will Eaves from Tallahassee, Floriday with his best one yesterday. Released under the dock. .
The lake level is 553.44 and has dropped 3/4 of an inch in the last 24-hpurs with the one operating generator running about 8-hours starting at 9:AM. The surface water temperature is 54 degrees on the main lake and 56 back in the creeks. The water is clear and you can see your lure down over 10-feet on the main lake and 5-6 feet in the creeks. It gets more clear as you go south and is too clear for fishing near the dam. Bass fishing is the best with some on the banks in the creeks and some still in open water on shad. I am catching a few crappie in and around brush piles in about 23-feet of water but not many. The ones being cleaned are full of eggs with bloodlines and want to spawn but it is too early. The males will move to the creeks when the water temperature gets in the 60's. They are scattered now and not in big schools and roaming.I am seeing some fish surfacing in the morning and evenings but are mostly bass that are on shad in the windblown creeks. The top-water bite for everything should be in full swing by April 15th but there will be some before then but you cannot depend on it. Do not mistake the carp jumping out of the water for feeding fish or you will be wasting your time. Some of our guests checked out the night bite for the spawning on the bank stripers but did not find any. They did catch a couple of them outside of the shallow water spawning area at dark with the walleye on soft plastics but they were not very big but were in the area. The good bite should start before the full moon which is the 25th. It is not far away. It is not near what it used to be. Stripers are one of the few fish that ingest their own eggs. We are scheduled to get a storm this afternoon. We need rain but not the wind and hail. The lake overall is in excellent condition and at a good level but fishing is just fair. Blackburns is still the home of the $59/day one bedroom cabins and a free stall for your boat at our dock comes with the cabin. Come on down. We will not charge you too much. No price increases for 2024 and no we are not for sale. Why pay more unless you just have too much money?
