Norfork Lake fishing and lake conditions by Scuba Steve from Blackburns Resort and Boat rental (click here for comments)

The lake level is 552.28 and has risen 3/4 inch in the last 24-hours with no generation. They just started last hour. They are also dropping the White River at Newport very quickly and it is just under 13-feet and it looks like it is heading to 12. This is not surprising as they are very reluctant to lower the area lakes before spring rains. My dock is still frozen in but that should change next week with the warmer weather. We will see if the people that think this weather is beautiful continue to do so after they get their electric and propane bills. The lake surface temperature was 36 on the main lake yesterday morning with the backs of most creeks iced. Some threadfin shad are dead already with many barely alive and near the surface. I do not know how many sink and how many float but this is a serious kill. The birds are having a feast below the dam. I will be out fishing as soon as I can get a boat out of the dock. I could launch another one but I do not hate the fish that bad. They are having easy feed now anyway. It is sunny and warming nicely so far today with a chance of rain later tomorrow. It looks like the bitter cold is over and the snowpack is disappearing but has a way to go yet. I have been doing plumbing for several days and hope I now have it under control. This area is just not set up for seven below zero temperatures. The county did an excellent job of snow removal and I really appreciate it and our roads are clear. When the lake opens up we will be back to normal and that should not be long. Spring is on the way.
