Norfork Lake Condition and Fishing Report by Scuba Steve from Blackburns Resort and Boat Rental (click here for comment)

The lake level is 561.27 and has dropped 4-inches in the last 24-hours with more generation. The lake surface temperature was 80.5 when I went out yesterday afternoon. I checked my throw line and got a nice flathead. It was baited with live bluegill. I then went to a Blackburns brush pile and caught three nice crappie on a jig. Moved to a main lake cut and caught two Kentucky bass. I saw some fish on the graph in 45-ft.about 30-ft. down and dropped a spoon and caught about a 5-6 lb. striper. The fish was released and swam away and I hope he made it. People are killing way too many small stripers in the 6-10 lb. range and are really cutting down on the big fish numbers by not letting them grow. Very few were stocked this year. Taking pictures of dock floors full of small dead stripers is not impressive. I came in after 1-1/2 hours and there was much less boat traffic than on Sunday and I only saw fishermen and pontoons. It was a very nice day but is cloudy this morning. We need rain bad and have not had any for almost two weeks. There was some 79 degree water back in the creeks and the lake seems to be clearing just a bit.
