The lake level is 570.85 and has dropped about 2-inches in the last 24-hours with one generator running continuously and four spillway gates open one foot. It is equavilent to about 2-1/3 generators. We will see if they follow the dumb rule of dropping the level at Newport to 21-feet if the lakes are 50% full on the 15th of this month. That is also one of the problems. They changed the way the 50% is calculated resulting in the lakes being held higher, and implimented the minimum flow law. They both took away flood capacity. I wonder if the rivers are getting enough minimum flow now. There will be no wade fishing for quite some time. The bass and catfish are still biting pretty good in the backs of the creeks and some walleye have moved back down river after spawn. The bigger crappie have spawned but I see no evidence of any fry yet. The surface temperature is still in the low 60's but should rise fast on the spawning beds with this very warm weather. Another cold front is moving in after that with highs in the low 60's, that and the full moon and the lake dropping will not do the fishing any good. I am just not seeing much top-water action yet. The lake is clearing nicely and the brown water is almost gone and is a good color for fishing. The lake in general is in good condition. I am catching some good fish every day.
