Norfork Lake fishing and lake conditions by Scuba Steve from Blackburns Resort and Boat rental (click here for comments)

Some good ones are being caught. Just not very many.Image title

The lake level is 555.14 and has dropped 2-1/2 inches in the last 24-hours with both generators running. They just cut back to running one generator now. The level is good now but needs to drop about 7-feet to prepare for the spring rains. The water temperature was 46 degrees yesterday afternoon but that should drop the next few days with the cold front coming in tonight. It is to be in the 50's and near 60 for this weekend. We always get some nice days in February. I could not catch many fish on top of brush yesterday so I started spooning on the bottom in 35-ft. of water next to the brush and caught some bass and crappie. Not too many though. There were several fish schooled and coming up on Cow point shallow but they were all small bass. They were in only 9-feet of water right on the point. Crappie fishing has slowed for me and it went from 6-8 fish per day in two hours to two. My normal brush piles have not been producing much. This is as slow as the fishing has been for me all winter. This cold weather and wind should shake things up a bit and I hope it improves. It does not matter as I will be out there anyway. It may be necessary to go to open water fishing. Hope not, it can usually be figured out.  That is what makes it a challenge.
