The lake level is now 560 and has risen 4-inches in the last 24-hours with no generation. They just opened all of the spillway gates.  We will see what happens now.  We received about 3/4 of an inch of rain in the last 24-hours but no severe weather. The fish are biting pretty good. We caught walleye, bass, white bass, stripers, hybrids, crappie and catfish. Some crappie and catfish were very large but most of the others were small. I went fishing with Bink and caught stripers, hybrids, white bass and crappie but no picture fish. We had a good time and marked lots of big schools but they were not biting very well. We were catching big numbers but not big fish. Spoons are the bait of choice but catfish are biting well on jugs baited with shiners with the small moon, rising water and cloudy skies. We will see what happens today. A lot of fun is happening here at Blackburns resort and Boat Rental and we still have the best prices. Come on down and we will not charge you too much and are open all year. Lots of open spaces and close to everything with lots of wildlife.

Mike caught some in the morning and I caught some in the evening. Image title

The lake level is 559.28 and is rising about an inch a day with no generation and three spillway gates open one foot which is not balancing out the river inflow. Let some water out boys. What in the world are you thinking? Not much I think. If they cannot manage it in the winter they do not have a chance in the spring. I was hoping the new guy in charge at Little Rock would be better but he is worse. Get the level at Newport to 21-feet and keep it there until we get into the high 540's. The surface temperature was 57+ on the main lake when I went out yesterday afternoon. I had a late start and did not get to fish long until dark. I caught crappie, bass and blurgill onlyand no walleye and was using the 1/4 ounce Bink's spoon. Bass fishing seems to have slowed a bit but white bass and hybrids are picking up even though not many are very big. The crappie are on shallower brush if you can find it and the red meat fish are on the flats in front of the houses on Mallard point in about 50-ft. of water. Crappie and bluegill fishing is the best. I am using spoons, grubs and slip floats with minnows. It is to get windy this evening and cool down. I am going fishing now and it is 7:AM. Will let you know.

Mike Eakle with some nice ones this morning.Image titleImage title

The lake level is 559.11 and has risen about 2-inches in the last 24-hours with no generation and three spillway gates open one foot which is equal to less than 1/2 generator. It is sunny and a beautiful day today after a cool and breezy day yesterday. The fish were biting pretty well though. Some of out guests were trolling umbrellas in from of the docks at Mallard point and caught red meat fish of all speces but nothing big. With the late summer fish kills, people learning how to catch them, increased fishing pressure, they are getting smaller and less in numbers. Since stripers and hybrids do not reproduce, either increased stockings or decrease in limits need to be implemented. The fish in general are getting smaller and smaller. Too many small fish are being killed. Pictures of dock floors full of dead small stripers is not impressive. Crappie, catfish and bass fishing is not decreasing though. The shad popularion is good also with many schools of very small ones showing up. All speces of fish are on them. You do not know what you will catch when you spoon them. Reports of some nice walleye are coming in but I have not caught any big ones yet. The brush piles are starting to get too deep again. Surface temperature is still in the high 50's and both the creeks and main lake are clearing nicely again after the 2-inch rain. There are still some good bass shallow near the bank off high banks. The morning bite starts about 8:AM and the evening bite starts about 4:Pm until dark and then abruptly stops. And I mean stops. Some nice fish are being caught every day. It gets better and better after a cold front until the next one comes in. Fish right up until it rains you out. We seem to be in a pattern of raining every week and then clearing with chilly nighs and repeat. It looks like some warm weather for the next several days. Come on down.  We will not charge you too much.

Caught on the Bink's Spoon.Image title

The lake level is 558.64 and has risen 6-1/2 inches in the last 24-hours after a two inch rain. The creeks run hard from about 4AM to 7AM but have slowed now. Both generators are down for maintenance. They are holding Newport at just over 12 feet and it should be at 21 feet. When I went out yesterday I went to a cove where the wind was blowing into  and spooned both brush piles and open water shad. The brush was in about 25-ft. of water and the shad were in about 50-ft. of water down about 25-ft. I caught white bass, bass and crappie. The Bink's 1/4 ounce spoon was used exclusively. I like to try different places.  Others were fishing the flats in front of the Mallard Point docks in 50-ft. of water and were catching bass and small stripers. The white bass are about 10-11 inches long but I am glad to have them showing up. They are easily caught are fun when nothing else is biting. I always say white bass are for people that can't catch anything else and trout are for prople that can't catch white bass. More big schools of shad are showing up and that is good. The lake was clearing nicely but has stained up again with the rain. The surface temperature is still in the high 50's. Thanksgiving is always a good time for overall fishing.  Come on down. We will not charge you too much. Some places are closed but Blackburns is open all year. Weather looks to warm up next week after this cold front moves through.

My largest crappie in the evening.Image title

Caught on the 1/4 ounce Bink's spoon. Image title

The lake level is still rising with no rain for over a week and no generators running.  They do have three spillway gates open 1-ft. which equals about 1/4 of a generator. They are also holding the White River at Newport at below 12-feet to keep the lakes up as much as possible. It should be at 21-feet.  The level is now 558.07. It is time to impeach the Corps of Engineers for incompetence. It was a good day for fishing yesterday. I only caught bass and crappie but it was all I was fishing for.  I was hoping for a walleye but got none. I used the 1/4 ounce spoon exclusively on brush in 18-25 feet. Four keeper bass and several crappie were caught and released. It was about 60-degrees with light wind and the surface temperature was 58 degrees. The lake is clearing nicely and is very clear near the shore. It is another beautiful day today and it is almost time to go. I did see a few boats. The good striper fishermen are catching fish but others are catching none. It is to remain warm but there are good chances of rain for the next several days. Come on down. We will not charge you too much and your first boat stall is free.

New Event

Caught yesterday on the Bink's spoon.Image title

The lake level is 558.13 and fairly stable with one generator running part of the time and they are keeping the White River at Newport at below 12 feet like something is going to flood. It has not rained for a week.  I though most of the crops were harvested. They are trying hard to protect Branson and running Table Rock hard.   If they will not drop the lake in the winter to prepare for the spring rains we need to get new managemrnt or a private company to run it and take the politics out of it. The level should be in the 540's by March.  It is all about the money. Hold and hope is not a stragety.  Both the main lake and the creeks are stained and you can only see your lure down 3 or 4 feet except near the bank. It is a good color for fishing. Surface temperature is 57-58 degrees. Fishing overall is fair to good with crappie the best.  Spooning brushpiles is the best way to get them. Bass fishing is not bad with some near the buckbrush in 6-9 feet of water. Some very nice Kentuckies are being caught but most of the bigger largemouth are still on shad suspended in 50-feet of water. Big bluegill are over brush about 10-feet down. Warmouth are right on the bank with some schooled with the crappie on brush.  The walleye that I am catching are all short at about 15-16 inches long. A very few keepers are being caught. Some white bass are finally showing up but most are small. Many fish are schooled and roaming with the shad. I have found no evidencce of a night bite for the stripers.  People that cannot catch stripers are fishing for crappie. Trolling umbrellas for red meat fish is the best now except for the spoon. They need to cut the striper limit to two fish and people need to quit killing small fish in the 5-10 lb. range if we want Norfork to keep being a good striper lake. I caught crappie, warmouth, bass and short walleye yesterday with the largest crappie being a little over 12-inches. It looks to not being cold again for the next week and I like fishing in the Thanksgiving time line. Blackburns is open all year so come on down. We will not charge you too much. You get a free boat stall here.

The lake level is 556.42 and has risen 1.4 feet in 24-hours.  They quit generating when it rained as they always do to enhance the rise. They were not generating much anyway.  They are generating heavily with spillway gates open to hold the rise down at the chain of lakes. We received about 3-inches of additional rainfall last evening and night and the creeks run hard. They have slowed way down now. The Water temperature was 63 last afternoon when I went out and it was very cloudy but no rain until after dark. The fishing was the same as the day before with bass being the best bite with crappie second. I caught bass, warmouth, small White Bass and crappie.  Some guests caught some small hybrids and White Bass but no stripers. They were using shiners with balloons and planer boards with several lines out and were fishing the flats in front of the houses on Mallard point. I went up to the walleye rearing pond point but saw no signs of any after dark activity. Nothing would touch the stick bait. It started to rain so I came in. It is to be very nice this weekend and then get cold.  We will see what the rain did to the fishing and I will let you know. They need to let some water out but refuse to do so. For the people that wanted summer to end they are getting their wish. They should be very happy Monday.

All Released.Image title

The lake level is 555.21 and has dropped 1/2 inch in the last 24-hours.  They are running one generator 1/2 speed part of the time and holding Newport at 11+ feet. We received about 0.8 inches of rain and more is on the way. It is cloudy and in the 50's today after a beautiful day yesterday. I went out at about 3:PM and fished until dark. I caught fish from the time I went out until I came in. Fish were on steep river channel banks with the wind blowing into them on the main lake. Warmouth were right on the bank and the bass were out in front of them in 6-8 feet of water and the crappie were in front of them in 13-feet of water. Some very nice fish were caught and all released. It was very nice to be out in the warm sun with fish biting. Tom Kelly came in with some good bass caught in Float creek and released them under my dock. He keeps his boat in Panther Bay Marina and fishes Float a lot.  It is a good place. He was using a 3-inch plastic worm and a spoon and I was using the grub and minnow. I tried spooning brush in 25-ft. of water but only got small fish and bluegill. The red meat fish I am catching are small and the White Bass that are being caught are quite small and not worthy of a picture. I do not keep them anyway.  The shad that I am seeing are very small.  There was a brown scum on the lake but it went away. I do not know what it was. The lake is not very clear now except for near the shore. Crappie are on shallow brush piles but I can only catch one or two in each place. The very big ones are not biting very well yet. Most are about 11-inches but an occassional monster shows up but he is usually with other big fish and not schooled with his own. Surface temperature was 64 degrees. Come on down to Blackburns where we will not charge you too much and your first boat stall is free. No duplexes here and all cabins have covered porches. Our 18-stall dock has several different sized stalls to fit different sized boats.  No one size fits all here and the walkways are wide and on both sides of your boat.

Caught plenty more too. All fish were released. Under the dock. Image title

The lake level is 555.31 and the surface temperature is 66 degrees. The weather is perfect and the fish are biting on Blackburns brush piles which are at a very good level now. Use spoons, grub and minnow and slip floats with minnows. Crappie, bass and bluegill are biting those and catfish are biting jugs with shiners. Everything is biting the 1/4 ounce Bink's spoons. Mike eakle caught two fish on one jug yesterday. It is to stay in the 60's for a while with chances of rain later this week. Fish until it rains you out. This is a good time of year and the lake is in excellent condition. Blackburns is open all year. Come on down. We will not charge you too much.

One big fish. Caught yesterday.Image title

These are showing up in big schools.Image title

The lake level is 555.39 and has risen just a bit with no generation for about 16-hours. They are doing their best to hold the level up. They better drop it all this winter to about 548 and raise the level requirement at Newport to a proper level or there will be a revolt. Enough of this mismanagement. The surface temperature is about 66 degrees and the lake was clearing but the creeks turned stained again yesterday. The main lake is still clear especially near the shore. Bass and bluegill are the best bite now with some crappie and walleye also being caught. Walleye bite is best just after sunset on and around main lake points.  I will go up to the walleye rearing pond and check for stripers this evening. If they are to move in there to feed at night it will be by the 12th of this month on the full moon.  I got it from a reliable source that they caught some white bass but I still have not. i do not fish for them much but catch them anyway. This is good news as I have not seen any all summer diving. They are usually everywhere. We need them when other fish do not bite. For some reason some fish that are usually near the bank or on brush, like bluegill, are showing up in big schools on shad in 50-feet of water. They are big ones too. I do not know where all of them came from. Some schools of shad are very small in size so the smaller Bink's spoons, 1/8th ounce ot 1/4 ounce, are working the best. I am either casting my grub and minnow or dropping the spoon exclusively now. I can carry my tackle box in my shirt pocket. It is sunny and nice so it is time for me to go. Come on down. We will not charge you too much and your first boat stall is free.  I wish more big stripers were showing up and that people released more of the smaller ones. A 7-9 lb. striper is not a big fish. If they do not quit killing these we will not be known as a trophy striper lake anymore even though the same amount are being stocked. Guides, striper club, other fishermen, are getting better at catching them. This along with the increased fishing pressure is taking a toll on them.
