A couple of yesterday's catch.Image title

The lake level is 555.65 and has dropped 1-inch in the last 24-hours with minimal generation. It was a beautiful day with ambient temperature in the early 70's and sunny with a light south wind when I went out yesterday. The lake is clearing nicely after the rain and is in excellent condition. This is a perfect level for launching, parking and fishing. I wish it would stay at this level always. I fished until dark and caught several fish including bass, crappie, warmouth, bluegill and one short walleye. It was good to just be outside. The fall foliage is still changing and is better than last year but not great. It is to be cloudy and rainy for the next several days with one clear night coming up with a frost. I am not seeing shad moving to the bank at dark for the night bite yet but the full moon is not until the 12th of November. I will put on a stick bait and give it a try a little later. I found a school of shad suspended in 50-ft. and dropped a spoon but they were bluegill. Big ones too. I caught a couple and moved on. Most bass were near the bank in front of the buck brush but a few were on main lake points in about 10-feet of water. I found crappie shallow on dead trees  and also on brush at 20-feet. The walleye was on a point 20-ft. down near the bottom. I only fished three places and the bite was best just at and after sundown. Come on down to Blackburns. We will not charge you too much and your first boat stall is free. Why pay more? We are open all year and if your boat is winterized we have a rental for you.

The lake level is 555.75 and has dropped about 1-inch in the last 24-hours. We received about two inches of rain the last three days but the creeks did not run. It is good to have moisture in the ground going into the winter. It has been cloudy, dreary, rainy and cool but is sunny and nice out now. I went fishing and found some very nice bass part way back in the creeks in cuts just outside the buck brush in about 7-8 feet near the bottom. I was using the grub and minnow but those three inch worms with a lead head are working too. I caught some good sized crappie but not many of them. I did see some fish schooled on the main lake in front of Mallard Point by Hensleys on shad in 50-ft. suspended but they were small. I only caught bass, crappie and bluegill  but it was nice to be out. No picture fish. I come in at dark and my photographer quits at 5PM. The main lake seemed more stained with the rain but is in excellent condition for fishing and boating. The surface water temperature was 67 but some of our guests were swimming off our rental pontoon. It is too cool for me and I put my scuba gear away Friday. That is a sad day for me every year as I do not want summer to leave. It is easier to get fish with a pole anyway. We had a big group leave today and another one coming in for Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving is always good fishing. Come on down.  We will not charge you too much and are open all year. The wind blew a lot of leaves off but there is more color than there was and it is not a total bust like last year. The roadways are not bad but the hillsides are still poor. Not worth driving a long ways to see.

Coming into the resort.Image title

The lake level is 555.89 and has dropped about 2-inches in the last 24-hours with a mix of one generator running and a small amount of flood gates open one foot.  The surface temperature has also dropped to just under 70 degrees and the lake is clearing and is in excellent condition. Crappie, bluegill and bass fishing are still the best with catfish and walleye next.  A few hybrids and a very few stripers are being caught. There are very few white bass. The fish coming up in the early morning and late evening are mostly small bass. Spoons over brush and a 3-inch worm with a lead head and hook exposed are working for bass. I am still using my 2-1/2 inch twister tail tipped with a minnow for both bass and crappie and am doing pretty well. Bass are near the bank and crappie are in brush at 20-30 feet suspended. Walleye are on and around brush on main lake points at 20-25 feet.  Also some are schooled part way back in the creeks in the evening in cuts. There are some red meat fish out in front of the docks at Mallard Point in 50-feet of water on shad but they are not very big. The fall foliage is changing slowly with the roadways being much more colorfull than the hillsides. i would not drive very far to see it. It was a dud last year. We are usually at peak the very end of the month and we are approaching that. My maple trees are turning brown and are usually brilliant red.  That is not a good sign. We do have some good color here at the resort though with our flaming bush magnificient.  It is cloudy and cooling down with a cold front on the way with highs to be near 50 later this week. Come on down. We will not charge you too much. Your first boat stall is free.

Caught yesterday on the Bink's spoon.Image title

The lake level is 556.51 and has dropped about 1-inch in the last 24-hours. They now have the White River at Newport at just over 10-feet. I guess they are preparing for a flood. The surface temperature was just over 71 degrees when I went out yesterday and it was breezy. I worked the grub and minnow around and over brush and caught some very nice crappie. I then tried the bank just outside the buckbrush and there were a lot of bass there but most of them were small. I caught no picture fish but one crappie was over 12-inches. I released all of them. I am fishing out of a different boat every day to make sure all of them are ready. It was nice and warm with ambient highs in the 70's and the lake was in excellent condition and very nice to be out. It stormed last night but nothing serious and it is gone now with sunny skies for several days.  We will see what this high pressure does to fishing. The bluegill bite is very good now on crickets and small spoons. Some stripers are being caught by trollers but they are small. I sure wish they would stop killing all of them. They are cutting their own throat. Pictures of dock floors full of small dead stripers are not impressive. I do not fish for them much but a lot of people do. Bink was really on the walleye yesterday. The ones that I caught were small but it is good to see them showing up. Come on down to Blackburns. We will not charge you too much.

The lake level is 556.67 and has dropped a little over one inch in the last 24-hours with very little generation. We are about 4-1/2 feet higher than we should be this time of year which is 552. It is at a good level for fishing and boating. the weather is very nice. You need a heavy coat early in the morning. Shirt sleeves in the afternoon and a jacket in the evening with a daily temperature range from 30's to the 70's. The water is still stained in the creeks and the main lake is getting clearer after the turnover. Crappie are on main lake brushpiles, walleye are on main lake points in 20-25 feet of water and catfish are biting perch on jugs. Striper fishing is slow and I still have not seen any white bass. Bass fishing is pretty good in about 15-20 feet of water on grubs and plastice worms. Bink's 1/4 ounce spoons are working for about anything in the brush. Fishing is getting better and better as it always does in the last of October and up into early December. I will let you know about the after dark bite for stripers and hybrids. If it happens it will be about the 12th of November.  The fall foliage is not looking very good so far but that could change. Only the road ways have color now. Come on down.  We will not charge you too much. Only $59/day for a one bedroom cabin with 2,3 and 4 bedrooms priced accordinly. Free stall for your boat and we have several bass and fishing pontoons for rent.

The lake level is 557.09 and has dropped about 1-inch in the last 24-hours with about 0.5 inches of rain last night. One generator is still down for maintenance and they are running the other part of the time and also opening one or two of the gates a very little to augument the release while holding Newport below 12- feet.  Surface temperature is 74 degrees and the creeks are stained a bit. Fishing and boating conditions are good with the lake at a good level with Blackburns brush piles drawing a lot of traffic. They are producing bass, walleye and crappie.  The big crappie have been biting for several days now with the lake turnover and the moon waning. Only the best fishermen are catching the stripers and walleye now. Bass fishing is getting better with a lot of fish on main lake points 1n 15-25 feet of water. Everyone is catching crappie and I wish they would not kill so many. I still am not seeing any White Bass but have reports of some showing up. I hope so. They are very easily caught and the children love them. The 1/4 ounce spoon is still the best lure over brush and the jig and pig, grub and plastic worm for bass. Walleye are on brush on main lake points also with about 1/3 of them keepers. Fishing will get better now as this high pressure hangs around and until the next cold front. The weather is perfect. Come on down.  We will not charge you too much. Fall foliage is changing quite a bit on the roadways but not much on the hill sides. We are not near peak yet.

Caught yesterday on the Bink's spoon.Image title

The lake level is 557.31 and has dropped 1/2 inch in the last 24-hours. They are doing well holding it up as long as possible in case it rains. It needs to be down about 10-feet by April in preparation for the spring rains.  It is at a good level for fishing and boating now though but it has taken them all summer and fall to get there.  We need a private company to manage the dams and parks and get the govenment out of it. It was a beautiful day yesterday and continues today.  Sunny with highs in the mid 70's. The fall color is changing just a bit every day but not very fast. The hillsides are not changing much just the roadways. Tom Kelly caught some nice bass and a walleye yesterday and we put them in the pond. It is getting stocked up pretty good now and is in excellent condition. Bass fishing is pretty good and he caught them on a jig and pig in float creek. We have some good fishermen in now and several others just left. We will see what happens today. Bink caught some good stripers yesterday on his Arkansas shiner spoon.  Fishing will get better as the full moon wanes for bass and crappie. I will go crappie fishing later today. Our brush piles are now finally coming into play. Come on down.  We will not charge you too much and your first boat stall is free. One bedroom cabins are still $59/day and they all are single units with no duplexes and all have covered porches. Trolling motors are also free on fishing pontoon rentals. You have 28-acres to roam and are not huddled up on a hillside with little parking. You will like our big dock with security system with different sized stalls for different sized boats with gutters on the roof and access fingers on both sides of your boat.

The lake level is 557.20 and has dropped about 1/2 inch with one generator running. The other is down for maintenance. You would think they would do the maintenance the last six months when they were shut down.  We received about 1-1/2 inches of rain last night and the creeks run hard. The fall doliage is just starting to turn with the sumac turning on the roadways and some ornamental trees and shrubs getting yellow and red.  Not much change on the hillsides yet. I cannot tell if it will be good yet but it usually is if it is not dry. The grass is green and still growing. The weather is much cooler today after 80 yesterday with a cold front coming through.  It is to be in the 70's again early next week. We have several good fishermen in now and they are catching mostly walleye, crappie and bluegill. A lot of the bass caught are small with many short ones coming up in the creeks in the evening. i am still seing no white bass. It is too cool to go diving this weekend so I will pole fish. It is easier anyway but not as fun. It looks to be a good fall for fishing and the lake is in excellent condition both for level and water clarity and there are lots of fish. Fish kills and too many dead small stripers pictured lining the dock floors have hurt the red meat fish population but we will see. They stock a lot of them and they grow fast.

The lake level is 557.26 and is dropping less than 2-inches/day. The surface temperature was about 80 when I went diving yesterday. The visibility was poor after the lake turnover but should clear up a bit soon as it settles out. I saw very little algae bloom this year and did not see the thermocline drop past 27-feet all year. The visibility was pretty good all year but spearfishing was just fair. Crappie were good but walleye and catfish were below fair. I will keep going until the surface temperature drops to below 70. I hate to give up. I am seeing less and less fish everyday but it is probably do to the visibility. I am only seeing bass, crappie, catfish and walleye and most of the walleye are undersized. Fishing should improve as we get into the month and after full moon. We will see if the walleye and striper move to the bank at dark on full moon in Novermber to feed. This is the time for stick baits on the 12th with a big moon. They do not always do this but the best walleye bite will be on the bank just before dark just do not know about the stripers. Try soft plastics too. Thanksgiving is a good time to catch some big fish. Come on down.  We will not charge you too much.

Yesterday's fish of the day.Image title

The lake level is 557.40 and has dropped a little less than 2-inches in the last 24-hours. The lake is at an excellent level and condition for fishing and boating. The surface temperature was 80-degrees when I went diving yesterday.  The visibility was not very good but there were a lot of fish on brush at 25-32 feet. Mostly bass, walleye and crappie.  I still have not seen a White Bass for months and they are usually a nuisance when diving. I went to 40-ft. deep and found no thermocline.  It looks like the lake has turned and took the visibiliry with it. I still got one nice walleye and a couple of big crappie on main lake points on brush. Several walleye just short are showing up now. There are lots of bass with some big Kentuckies in the three pound range. Spoons, plastic worms and finesse worms are working best. Crappie are biting 1/4 ounce Bink's spoons and minnows on a slip float. The weather has been great and the fishing is getting better every day.  Come on down.  We will not charge you too much and your first boat stall is free. It is to be 80 again tomorrow.

The lake level is 557.70 and rising just a bit with very little generation. It rained a little over 2-inches in a two day period and the creeks run hard for a while. We were very dry. Everything is very green again and the grass is growing. There is little sign of any fall foliage color. The level of the White River at Newport is 11.2 feet for some stupid reason. Hold and hope is their motto and keeping the level up is their game. At least the level is good for right now for fishing and boating. I went out for a few minutes this morning and caught a few off crappie rock with the grub and minnow. Fishing in the morning and diving in the afternoon. Things are tough.  It was cool and rainy almost all day yesterday but is sunny and beautiful today and for the next several days. Come on down and we will not charge you too much. Your first boat stall is free and we are open all year.

Mike Eakle caught some good ones yesterday and they all went in the pond. Image title

The lake level is 557.68 and has dropped a little over 1-inch in the last 24-hours with very limited generation. The White River at Newport actually dropped to under 11-feet yesterday. I sure hope they do not hold the level up so high this year and then blame the spring rains. That lame excuse is getting old. The level now is optimal for fishing and boating but is where it should have been in early June not October. Impeach the Corps of Engineers. It was a perfect day yesterday but rained a little last night and is still raining now. We have received a total of about 0.4 inches and it has all sunk in with the ground being so dry.  It is to be beautiful starting tomorrow for several days with highs in the low to mid 70's.  Bass, crappie, walleye and catfish are biting pretty well but not great. Look for brush on main lake points in 20-30 feet of water and use the 1/4 ounce Bink's spoon mostly and also a plastic worm. The fall foliage is showing just a litte color but not much. I am still expecting the peak to be the very last of this month. Blackburns is your fall foliage headquarters for Mountain Home, Norfork Lake and the Ozark Mountain region. We have cover for your motorcycle and will help you with scenic routes. Come on Down. We will not charge you too much and are open all year.

Mike Eakle caught a few over 11-inches .Image title

The lake level is 557.81 and has dropped a little over 1-inch in the last 24-hours and they are holding the White river at 11-ft.  I guess they are worried about a flood. We definitely need someone else to manage the dam. The lake is at a good level for boating and fishing but needs to be a lot lower coming out of the winter. Fishing is getting better and better. I am a walleye, crappie and catfish guy and do not fish for the red meat fish much. Bass fishing is good with several smaller ones being caught but some good ones too. Walleye are scattered and not schooled and bass are schooled. White Bass are gone. Crappie fishing is fair with a lot of smaller ones in the 10-11 inch range being caught off Blackburns Brush piles. A few smaller stripers are showing up.  The surface water temperature is dropping is dropping with the cooler nights and is now in the high 70's and varies with the time of day and amount of sunshine. Most varieties start biting about 8:AM or about one hour after sunrise. Main lake points with brush is a good place to start. Top water fish are mostly small bass. Diving conditions are good around Robinson for walleye.

The lake level is 558.09 and is dropping less than 2-inches/day. They are holding Newport religiously under 12- feet to control flooding during this drought. The level is perfect now for Norfork and Blackburns where you can drive or walk 1/3 mile to the dock and get on with no steps. We will see if the incompetent lake management keeps lowering the level or hold and hope and allow the level to remain too high all winter.  It rains here in the spring boys. The surface temperature was near 80 when I went diving and I went to near 40-feet deep and found no thermocline. The temperature was nearly the same from 10-feet down to 40-feet. The deepest the thermocline has been is 27-ft. all year and it does not drop as the water cools.  You cannot see the thermocline on your fishfinder. The water is pretty clear and what people think is the thermocline is just where the light stops penetrating. The crappie bite has fallen off quite a bit and they are not as big as they were a week ago. Bass and walleye fishing is the best with crappie third.  You cannot go fishing once a week and write a fishing report. Things are changing rapidly. I am still seeing no White Bass and am starting to believe they are not there. They are the go to fish when people cannot catch anything else and are fun to catch. We need them. We will see if the stripers move to the bank in November for a night bite to feed but I have my doubts about that. It does not happen every year. The walleye bite in the fall does happen though with soft plastics just at sunset until dark. I got some good walleye yesterday and a couple of crappie. Come on down. Blackburns is open all year and has the best prices. I know where the fish are and will help you.

Got a couple of good ones Scuba Diving.Image title

The lake level is 558.23 and continues to drop a little less than 2-inches in a 24 hour period. The conditions were sunny and hot when I went diving yesterday. The surface temperature was in the late 70's and the visibility was pretty good at about 8-9 feet. I went down to 35 feet and found no definite thermocline and only slight temperature variation. The fish that I found were deeper than earlier in the week with many big bass at 20-25 feet  and several good walleye and a few crappie with them. Out on the main lake points where they start to drop off are a good place to start. It is to cool later this week with highs near 70 and lows in the 50's. I will be sorry for summer to be over. The lake in general is in excellent condition for fishing and boating.

The lake level is 558.41 and has dropped a little less than 2-inches in the last 24-hours. When i went diving yesterday a lot has changed. Many of the bass have left the main lake points.  There were still some out on the points in 16-ft. of water but not nearly as many and not nearly as many big ones. Also a lot of the crappie were gone. I went down over 30-feet and found no thermocline. That does not mean there is not one but it has been in the 26-ft. range all summer. It does not go down as the water cools. I was low on air and did not want to go deeper. I will check it out tomorrow. I did see several walleye at about 20ft. where there were none a few days ago. Tom Kelly did catch some good crappie at about 25-ft. and we put them in the pond. The weather remains warm and the surface temperature is near 80. We received 1.6 inches and 1.2 inches of rain last week and everything is very green.  The lake is in very good condition for boating and fishing. The level is perfect and you can drive to Blackburns dock and step right on. The visibility is just fair for diving and seems to be the same from 5-30-ft.  Come on down to Blackburns Resort and Boat Rental. We will not charge you too much.  $59/day for a one bedroom. Not bad. Blackburns is your fall foliage headquarters for Norfork lake, Mountain Home, Ozark Mountain Region and Northern Arkansas. So far it still looks to peak the very last of This month. Looks to be good this year so far.
